Title: Tail light
Post by: Nickolouse on September 04, 2012, 07:43:37 pm
So I was riding home last night and someone yelled to me to turn on my tail light. It is suppose to always be on so I'm not quite sure what has happened. I haven't opened it up yet. The break-light works so I'm assuming its not a ground. I'm going to go out and start looking around for the cause in a moment any place you guys would look first?

they are usually a dual filament bulb, like an automotive 1157, so the brake light and tail light operate separate filaments so very likely the tail lamp side burned out.
I just had the opposite on my Iron barrel, where the brake light wasn't working and I traced all through the bike for an electrical issue only to go where I should have started and found the bulb simply burned out.

I knew there was a good reason to ask you guys! Saved me some time looking for electrical issues. Thanks!

I had a good Samaritan point the same thing out to me a few months ago.  Brake/tail lights in general no one notices they are burned out unless someone else tells you.  It is a dual filament bulb as others have said.  Readily available at any auto parts store.
