Title: New Brough Superiors being made
Post by: Anon on August 17, 2009, 07:28:57 pm
There is a new company making Brough Superior replicas.  They are making it to in two different trims, at least for it's unveiling.  I'm sure that they will be ungodly expensive, like the originals were in their time, but it's pretty cool all the same.  Here's more about it at this link:

But will it cruise all day on the interstate highway at 70mph with a sidecar on it?

Hahaha!

Very lovely bike!

Doomed1 is going to shit bricks when he sees that.
He's been dreaming of a Brough since he came to this website.

I second that,  I don't remember seeing a more true-to-the-original renditions of a bike.

Thanks for the link Eamon.

No, I mean they really look like originals. They appear to have 75 years of scuffs and scratches on them. They don't look like replicas. It looks like they used photos of the real thing on that blog.

Thanks for the update Eamon.

I was wondering what progress has been made since reading about it in issue #217 of Classic Bike Guide.

I think the blog I linked to (the Vintagent) will have more pictures soon.  Looks pretty nice. doesn't it?  Oh well, it's not like I could ever afford one, but drooling is fun (well embarassing, really, but I'm doing it anyway)!

Hmm... I notice in reading about the event that they are displaying two new bikes, but also auctioning off two originals.  Maybe those pictures are the originals?  In any case, I expect more info and pictures will be revealed soon.

Didja get a look at the exposed valve gear?

Valve stems, valve springs, and rockers all exposed to the open atmosphere.
No covers. :o

Some old bikes of that era didn't even have valve oilers. You stopped periodically, and got out your oil can, and squirted some oil on the valves and rockers!
I guess maybe wiped the road grunge off them too.
Yikes!

Beeeauuutiful bikes, though!
I would LOVE to have one!
One of the nicest bikes of all time, IMO.

Now all we need is for someone to remake the Vincent Black Knight.  I want one of these also.  Can almost bet these will go for better than $50K.  So many nice bikes so little funding.  Will.

One thing I remembered when reading this post is that, it seems to me that when we came back from riding our 50's era bikes, with their smoke and leaks, we tended to smell of smoke and oil.  Or is that my imagination?

Seems you rode a bike and you smelled like you rode a bike.

I just finished watching Jay Leno's video for the umpteenth time.

When I stop to think that the Brough Superior was twenty plus years ahead of our beloved bullets in many ways it gives me a new appreciation for Mr. Brough's passion for the machine and the advanced technology of it  (for its day)

Well, they weren't called Brough SUPERIOR for nothing, were they?   :)

I love the story about how George Brough's father made motorcycles as well, so he called his Brough Superior to show they were in fact superior to those of his father!

Here are some more pictures:

The photos taken outdoors with Jay Leno look like the new replica, it looks like a brand new bike.

Also, check out the 'new BS engine' link on the left. Enlarge the photos, it's a right purty engine.

More details at the 'news and press' link.

Would seriously consider it if the engines are (for the most part) the later pressurized lubrication engines.  Total loss lubrication just scares me.
