Title: 99 RE Timming cover
Post by: velo499 on April 05, 2013, 11:24:18 am
This years upgrade was supposed to be a new timing chest cover but alas I've waited to long , Nfield gear no longer carries them. My oil filter cover has a slow leak and there is a suspicious bump on the back end of the oil filter case. Any one notice this bump or is there another parts supplier to check out for the timing cover??? Thanks Mike

I'd keep the one you have.
It's possible to repair slow oil leaks at a joint, and the "bump" is there on all of them.

You can check Hitchcocks and on-line Ebay.   ERC

Thanks I'll do that, maybe a spare electronic ign module is in order, thanks again, that bump is out of the back of my brain. Must stay vigilante with the 99. Mike

If you need a part other than what is listed on nfieldgear's webpage then you will need to call them to order.

I noticed the same thing you did on the end of the filter housing on the timing cover. It must be something that happens after the casting process. Mine had what looked like a JB Weld patch on the surface which seemed to weep a little. I'm not sure if they all come from the factory this way or if it is something that happens during the prep phase after the part is cast. I could see that if the cast wasn't quite perfect or they took to much of the flash off it would create a hole. The JB Weld was probably an authorized fix so they wouldn't have bins of F'ed up timing covers. It definitely is not enough oil loss to worry about. The new Enfield's leak oil minimally compared to the older ones.
