i'm not finding either side in this dispute very believable. it's a terrible shame that people continue to die while these counter-accusations are flying.

My Interceptor makes the same pop a few seconds after shutting down the engine.

650 Interceptor & Continental GT / Re: Replacement Battery.

The RE Owner's Manual lists the OEM battery as 12V - 12Ah VRLA.

Surprisingly for a budget bike, the OEM battery is a type of AGM battery - more of a premium battery than I expected.

My other RE bike, a 2004 Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350cc kick start only has only a basic non AGM lead acid battery. Obviously, on a kick start only bike, a good battery is less critical.

650 Interceptor & Continental GT / Re: Question about stock tires

Hey all…
...
What has me weirded out is my back tire sometimes feels like it’s sliding out slightly when I accelerate out of a turn.
...
This is exactly what I noticed after I changed from stock Ceats to Michelin Road Classics.
Or rather, the lack of sliding.
In corners, the rear (Michelin) felt glued to the road, compared to the Ceat.

Quote
I’ve noticed myself losing confidence in the stock tires and can’t wrap my head around what might have changed
Exactly my experience.
In hindsight, every km spend on the Ceats was one too many.

The CEAT tyres on my Royal Enfield Continental GT650 are three years old.

They suit my sedate riding style. I still have the chicken strips on the edges of the tyres.

The RE Owner's Manual lists CEAT or Pirelli Phantom Sports Comp tyres as replacement options.

The local dealers do not stock these tyres.

When my CEAT tyres wear out, I will have to find replacement tyres, other than those listed in the RE Owner's Manual.

411 & 450 Himalayan & Scram / Re: 2019 Himalayan known issues
« Last Post by John Flatt on Today at 01:54:38 am »
Mostly easily fixable minor issues over the years.

1. Keyed ignition switch caused 2-3 random shut downs. Cleaned carbonized stuff off the contacts and put dielectric grease and there has been no recurrence. A few folks replaced the ignition switch instead.

2. Battery drains out in 1-2 weeks if unused. Hitchcock’s sells a little adapter that fixed this issue.

3. If in the US, RE did recall and replace both brake calipers for corrosion issues.

4. Front brake lever can go flat after a few days and no amount of bleeding by any manual technique fixes it. Needs the RE electronic tool to cycle ABS to get hidden air bubbles out, but this would have been already done during the caliper recall.

Overall a very reliable bike. HCM cam, powertronic and Lexmark muffler totally woke up the engine. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Thank you

" He found the engine to have it's power up higher and it lacks a lot of the 'tractor' aspect of the 411." Sounds a lot more modern to me. Power = HP x RPM. More spin, more zoom. I'm still wondering where the extra 100 pounds is hidden. The venerable 43 HP DR650 is a merely a petite 360 pounds. The 44 HP in-country 3rd party Bajaj/KTM 390 is a portly 380 pounds, but still almost 60 pounds lighter than the 452.

As far as long stroke torque, what happens if you use aluminum for the flywheels on a long stroke engine? Even put a steel band (Or D.U.!) around the perimeter of each flywheel half, taking advantage of the leverage factor and the better-kinetic-energy-storage-farther-from-the-centerline effect? The whole flywheel could be lighter but would still have the desirable undersquare geometry.

I'm thinking a weekend spent doing "Candy Striper"duty at the local Orthopaedic Ward will do the little scofflaws a world of good. A nice reality check for them.
