I turned 23,000 miles on my " 03 " Tuesday...
and now I see that I've made " SCOOTER " !!
I'll be Damned...
23,000 miles in 5 years and I made SCOOTER!!
I'm feel'n really good bout this...
YUP. . . . . . . .
think I'll go buy a lottery ticket...

23,000 miles is something to be happy about. How many problems did you encounter on the way?

Good for you. The RE is all about eating up miles. I can't understand people who buy a motorcycle, then put a couple hundred miles a year on it. What's the point? I can't wait to get up there with you. I average about a thousand miles a month.

I was hoping to get mine up to 20,000 this season but I think I'm going to be about 300 shy of that goal.
Hey, I thinking about riding the Bullet out to Mo. for the reunion again next year.
The back road route I took this year takes me about 30 miles N of where you are.
I spent the night in McLean Il on 136.
Do you want to meet up and ride the rest of the way with me? It took about 6/7 hrs from McLean.

23,000 miles is something..... How many problems did you encounter on the way?
I spent the 1st year just learning, tightening, re-jetting, and finding the right timing and plug combo... I crapped out a lot of plugs learning that I didn't really need to use the choke!! 4,400 miles.
2nd year of 3,300 miles broke throtle cable broke.. spent rest of year riding and puttering with things like drilling out bazooka for more air and coil change and relocation...
3rd year saw more fid'lin but no brakedowns..6,100 miles, must have been a good year!
4rth year, changed oirg clutch cable at 14,000 miles...didn't brake just very spongey.
1st real brakdown- shifter ratchet spring at 17,000 miles.Didn't get stranded; got home using the aux.shifter AKA neutral finder...... durring all this I had the primary off and found a wobling stator on the alternator... hhhmmmm, I've never siezed or anything, how did the output shaft get bent?? My only thoughts was that it had been that way all along but made me nervous... hard time getting centered.. put back together but decided to remove motor winter of 2006 for a new output shaft by the world renowned "SLAM" Dunkus at Interstate motorcycles.18,211 miles.

this year has been pretty uneventful as well. My car sits all summer so long as it is dry; warmer than 40 degrees, and winds below 15MPH. Regular maint and constant
fettleing is the key I spose. I don't mind wrenching but I only wash it about 3 or 4 times a year... it is NOT a show bike, it is my daily Driver.

That sounds like fun... let's kind of plan on that... weather permitting...

Riding in the rain is one of those things that nobody likes but if you want to get somewhere at a certain time you just have to do.
A good rain suit helps.

I notice a lot of folk don't ride when wet, hopefully they do sometimes, to be able to deal with a sudden downpour. I don't like to ride in the rain, but do, to keep my hand in - I rode across Holland once, in pouring rain - not nice, but I had to go, so I went, two days, on a bike, in the rain.
