Title: Lucky escape.
Post by: Philbomoog on July 21, 2013, 06:00:38 pm
Vehicle in front slows to turn off the carriageway but is held up by oncoming traffic. I slow, intending to pass the now stationary vehicle on its nearside.
Vehicle behind me fails to slow and tries to make the same gap.
It didn't end well.
Luckily the stationary vehicle took the main impact and I was simply pushed from behind, experiencing a level of acceleration not normally associated with Royal Enfield.

Both cars involved appear to be total write-offs. Enfield suffered a broken tail light, cracked number plate and a creased mudguard. I've yet to find a part of my body that isn't bruised.

Stupid people.  Sorry for the mishap but glad to hear you and the bike weren't seriously hurt.

Glad you are OK. You should check the swing arm and frame. On any bike the swing arm, in particular, often is twisted in these kind of impacts. With some one's help, use 90 degree framing rulers to position the bike perfectly upright. Measure the height to the center of the rear axle on both sides, More than 1/8th inch discrepancy is cause to replace the swing arm with bearings. When you get it off inspect the mounting holes on the frame, and the shocks. Check the height to the upper shock mounts on each side in the same way. This will tell you if the rear sub-frame is twisted.

Wow!  That was a lucky escape.  Glad to hear you're just bruised.  Hope the bike is ok as well.
