I have a 2008 AVL with very low miles on it (13 miles, really, I bought it with 6 from someone who bought it and lost interest in riding but kept it as an ornament) which I want to do something similar to the seller of that engine on ebay (swap in a diesel).  May not get around to it for a long time, too many projects not enough time - but I am curious what would be a price that would be fair to both seller and buyer on a spotless 08 AVL engine with 13 miles? Thanks!

Like you, I thought the concept of a diesel bike was good, until I saw and heard one in the flesh !!
Have you heard one? they sound like a dumper, and apparently break frames, not for me I'm afraid.

So would I...I mean, isn't there some other Bullet out there with its crankshaft poking out of a gaping hole in the crankcase that you can disembowel instead the very rarest of models with less miles on it than my old commute to work? Don't be a Savage, man!

         If I had money I didn't need, I! would buy it to save it from having a clattering, ugly Diesel!?! grafted into it.

          I've done a lot of modifying to mine, yes, but please don't do that. Think of the piece of history you're responsible for and how lucky you are to have had it fall in your lap. 

           And please kick start it 90% of the time or you could blow the sprag and then not be able to sell it.

I once drove 70 miles or so to a Royal Enfield specialist to see a diesel converted Bullet; I was intrigued by the claim of 200 mpg.

Ten minutes later, having ridden it, I decided never to buy one; it was awful!

The diesel conversions can give some very good mileage but it is at a trade off in power.

Most of the diesel engines mounted in an Enfield frame are rated at about 10-12 horsepower.
They also sound like some tiny psychopath is doing their best to beat the engine to death with a ball peen hammer from the inside.

Some people like them but I don't.

This is interesting, just what is being discussed, a diesel conversion of a 2008 RE, in New Jersey, and being sold by the same party that was offering the engine that prompted me to start this thread.

Also, discussion here prompted me to look on U-tube for more information on the RE diesels, and there are at least a half dozen videos showing those diesel powered machines, being started, (generally with great difficulty), and ridden.  Some were conversions, and some were authentic RE Taurus machines.  In one video, the presenter says he was attracted to the diesel because it "has a deeper THUMP" than the standard petrol bikes.
