While at the BMW EuroCycle Sonoma shop yesterday, located in Northern California for their open house event, which featured nothing but the BMW 1800cc boxer pig, off in the corner I saw what I believe is an early 1960's BMW R27 250cc single that was in mint condition. I was told that the previous owner displayed it in his home for many years before the current owner bought it. Photos attached.

When I was 12 years old my next door neighbor had that same exact Beemer, I thought it was cool bike and wished I was big enough to ride it. I was just starting out on motorcycles with a 50 cc tiddler and "Perce" (Percival) was finishing up riding in his golden years. He is long gone now but back then he helped me out greatly getting started. In his 80's he could still sit backwards on the handlebars of a bicycle and ride it around the street to the thrill of all the neighborhood kids. Those pictures just brought back some very happy memories! Got to go, I think I have something in my eye.

Were the BMW seats of that era made of rubber? Waterproofness? Or is that real pig skin?

All the solo seats that I have seen appeared to be made of rubber, or something very similar. I never saw a seat covered with pig skin. My guess is that in Germany during those days every part of a pig, including its skin, was being turned into various types of sausages.  ;)

Just for fun, attached are photos of a 1955 R25-3, which includes a passenger "pad".  I bet, just 10 years after the end of the War, you got whatever the factory had available at the time.

While I was searching for the R25 photos, I came across pictures of an old 1928 BMW R2 that you might find interesting - even if it does have two cylinders.  :o  It was displayed last year at the BMW dealership that I frequent during their open house in January, 2020, right before the pandemic hit and our lives all turned upside-down.  :(

Some risk to get blinded with your own headlight with those mirrors.  :D

Saw more of them in Bangkok, in '72, then everywhere else put together.

Had a '56 R50.  Same funky, beautiful styling, but the singles are way cooler.

Always wanted one to sit next to my CB92  Benly (which I've also never owned).

@ #11: If that's a 6V system, the headlight likely is best at attracting moths... :o Great strides in lighting since 1950!  :o 8)

Nice. There were still tons of those old '50s and early '60s Beemer singles thumping around Berlin back in the '80s when I lived there. I gather they were pretty much "immortal" and always wanted one. One with those Earles leading link forks would just be the cherry on top. The '57 Zündapp Bella scooter I wound up with as my "daily driver" yonder, and which I still have, also has similar leading link forks, which just make everything more pleasant. I imagine if one could get by with an old Bullet, one of those old R26 or R27 Beemer singles might be just the ticket for those sunny day mental health jaunts just dodging the butterflies on backroads.
