Have you ever had the head off to de-carbonize it?

The frequency in the manual seems a lot.  Modern unleaded gas shouldn't gunk things up as fast as the old days.

I'm of a mind that if it's running right with no loss of power - no need to pull the head.

                                             Congrats!!
I just turned over 24,000 myself. I've got a feeling that you are on a mission
for miles and that you're going to pass me up this summer.

Congratulations on the milestone!  I just turned my first thousand, and like you I am looking forward to the many miles to come.

I never took the head off just to de-carbonize it. But the head has been off quite a few times mostly for cylinder base gaskets.  The carbon buildup has never been that bad.
I think the worst was during the break-in period.
