Title: Who has the most miles on their original engine?
Post by: Rick O'Shea on February 03, 2010, 11:07:21 pm
Come on boys, let's see some numbers. Maybe state the year, engine type & any other  important facts. Had only 2500 on mine before the wreck.

nope, no MMO BUT...
A splash of Sea Foam in the gas every now and then... bout 1 can a year...
a squirt of Lucas oil fortifier in the oil... little more than a Qt. a year...
changed the oil AND filter every 1,500 miles...
minor mods, K&N filter, drilled thru Bazooka, 30mm flatslide carby...
custom oil breather and recycler...
but most of all; don't over fiddle with it. Just keep it in tune, lube cables, keep
chain adjusted AND DON'T FUCK WITH IT!!

Did 14,000 thou on the original Speedmasters. Nuts huh? Finally swapped 'em out for the modern Avons our host sells. I don't know if by the end the old ones were so bad or the new ones so great but holy crap, what a difference. Like a new bike.

Hey Redcat, No, the stock Avons, though a goodlooking tire in the vintage sense are really just that. Good for a period correct restoration. The AM20 front and AM26 rear that our host offers are far and away better rubber, especially in the rain. Cornering grip also much better. At first I thought to get another set of the Speedmasters because I liked the period look. But I'm glad good sense took over. Oh, and another thing to consider is whether they have rain grooves on a lot of your roads. That stock front tracked them like crazy. Very scary. Not so the new one. Hope this helped.   Chuck.

There was a guy that used to come to the Rally on the River every year, John. He had over 58K on his 2000 Bullet when he left to go home. The next year he blew it up on the way to the LasVegas rally (from the east coast) so I'd guess he had at least 62K on it.
His secret? Ride it, change the oil and leave it alone.
I got 21K out of my 99s motor before a top to bottom re-build. Not that it needed it but I wanted to make sure it lasts a bit longer than I do.
My secret? Ride it, change the oil and leave it alone.

Well - It's good to see that MY secret to the long life of a lot of my *Junque* is not really a secret. Hahaha!! Tune it, love it, get it right and DON'T F@#K WITH IT really DOES work. Maintenance is King, here .... Heck - I've managed to put 40K klicks on a raggedy DNEPR by doing that - and I've never had to walk home (although some say it'd be FASTER to do so ... heeheehee!!) I'm not near there yet with the old Blue Belle .... but I hope to be. One day I'll be on here, bragging to the "whippersnappers" that I got me a HUNNERT THOUSAND MILES on my Iron Barrel ....
