My 2020 KTM 390 Duke just showed a "service required" warning on its big color display. You know how irritating that can be, especially as I perform my own servicing on the bike, ever since my dealer charged me $650 for the 600-mile service.  Fortunately, unlike BMW, you can spoof the warning by adjusting the date. I was easily able to reset today's date to a year before the bike left the factory. That took care of the warning for at least the next year. Time travel! I love it when you can fool electronics on a motorcycle.  You could never do that on a BMW.

Good to see you found a work-around. Have you spent much time looking for an actual reset? I found a video that shows how to do it on my '23 RE Classic. It's a series of pushing buttons and turning keys. Get the right sequence and, bingo, service light goes out. Maybe there's someone out there that knows how to do it on your KTM and is willing to share.

Resetting the date gets rid of the service reminder and that is good enough for me as I service the bike myself and it will never see the dealer again. Plus, the bike is no longer under warranty.

Now I'm curious to know how far back you can set the date ... like, to the start of 1970 or something so you don't get a reminder until 2070?

I agree. That is really weird. I set it a year before the bike was built at the factory, but I didn't want to push my luck and go back much further. Perhaps the date that I picked was after the ECU was programed at the factory that manufactured the computer. 

Of course, the service reminder might also be triggered by mileage and I just haven't reached that mileage yet. If that happens, I might have to go searching the internet to find out how to remove the mileage service warning, instead of the date warning.

It's kind of a shame you can't just take a warning light bulb out, lol ... the low fuel light on one of my trailies decided to stay permanently lit so I just unplugged it (it came on far too soon to be useful anyway)

The little KTM uses one of those color TV displays as a dash. Very nice to look at, but not a bulb in sight.
