Title: Is is a Vintage yet ?
Post by: chanderjeet on October 03, 2009, 04:03:11 pm
I apologize if I'm posting in wrong forum but how old does a Bullet have to be to be called a Vintage?

Say 1975 or earlier?

Some will disagree, but I would say Made in England.

Ah, I think pre 1980 Indian REs would qualify...  It would be cool to have a real vintage Indian Army RE in my opinion.

Recently went to a 'classic bike' show here in UK where the criteria was pre 75.
The place was full of BSA's, Aerials,Nortons, Vincents and a few Harleys (only one Enfield!)
Got some lovely photos but they're too big to post. Sorry

I have a tendancy to agree with Leonard about the description "Vintage" but in all fairness I would say prior to 1972 since that was the last of the UK models and all Indian built models would have had to have been imported on a one off basis at that time. At some point though all of the Indian built models will be vintage as well. Especially since they have discontinued the old style engines and transmissions for the unitized type of construction.

So I get this general feeling from here and a few others that pre 1975 is indeed Vintage.
In that case, HURRAY, I just landed myself a Vintage Enfield  ;D

If you go to the VJEMC web site they have a list that may tell you what years are considered Vintage.  Will.

I believe our Madrass made Iron Barrel and A.V.L Bullets are morally qualified as vintage due to the design, materials and manufacturing methods being period correct.

My 1978 Suzuki GS1000E had more plastic bits than my Bullet does :D

An absence of plastic is a good indicator.
