Title: New G5 Deluxe with hack!
Post by: Tri750 on October 15, 2011, 05:12:15 pm
We delivered our first sidecar rig yesterday.
An Inder Rocket attached to a 2011 G5 Deluxe!  Very nice quality out of the box. It has headlight, turn signals and a running light included. Small screen, floor mat, padded armrests, a small trunk, tonneau cover.
New owner Gary D. taking delivery of this black and chrome rig.
Gary has us fit a solo seat, rear luggage rack, headlight visor, and a few other blingy bits.

No doubt.  Well done.

How is performance when pulling the rig?

I LOVE the red accents on the interior. The seat is done in black with the bright red inserts.
We were a Ural dealer for a couple years and we found that the RE is a much better handling set up than the Ural. The RE is about 2 hundred pounds lighter than the Ural. The Ural posts a very optimistic HP figure of 40.
Really, the RE would run circles around the Ural.

No real numbers, but when we were delivering it, the rig got up to 55-60 at a good clip! The G5 does have the smaller counter-shaft, so it should zing up pretty well.
Since she's new, we'll wait until there are some miles on it then see how the Bullet flies with a "Rocket" attached.
I like it!

Any faster than that would probably scare the bojeezus out of the ol' lady anyway.

Thanks for the report.

That looks super!  Really nicely done.  Is that red upholstery standard?

Sorry, finally read all the details in the original post.  You really think it's faster than the Ural?  I rode a single whee drive model (empty sidecar) and it was no rocket but it got right up to freeway speed no sweat.  More details if you please :)

The Ural, weighs over 700 lbs. Claims 40 hp, and you feel all the 700 plus pounds when you ride it. The RE is much lighter and peppy in acceleration.
Width of the RE is about 4' 6" so it is easier to store or park. With some extending, you could get the track wider if nothing else, but to get some more space between the bike and the car. Now, the car is just outside your right boot when riding.
It spins right around at parking lot speeds and I suggested the owner use a sandbag to weigh the car down a bit. You would need to try it in the footwell and the trunk to find the right balance point.
All sidecars need some fiddleing due to rider preference.

I'm planning to add a car to my C5 in the next few years.  Thanks for the first hand info.  With the bottom line Ural priced at $10k it's about the same price as an RE and a car together.  Very different style of setups.  The Ural is certainly more roomy and beefy but the RE+Cozy has way more style IMO :)  I do like them both.

Any idea what a comfortable top speed is on the RE setup?  Just curious if I will have to stay off the freeway when I mount it.

Thanks again,
Scott
