Does the CGT have an oil screen/strainer inside the crankcase that needs to be cleaned? I have been doing my changes for 3 years and just unscrewed the 4 bolts on the underside of the bike...

Located next to the rear oil drain plug is a small cover for the oil pump pickup screen. It is held in place with two small hex head bolts. These are the same size bolts that hold the oil filter cover in place.
IMO, the screen should be cleaned during each and every oil change.
When the screen cover is removed you will also find a magnet in it and the fine steel particles on it should be removed.

I know exactly which part you are referring to Arizoni. I have always removed it and let the oil drain out of that part. However, there is no screen/strainer/mesh to speak of. Only a magnetic plug that has metal shavings stuck to it that I clean off.

If that is the case, someone either forgot to install the barrel wire screen when the bike was built at the factory, or during a service that involved changing the oil in your sump. You might want to invest in a new wire screen. I wouldn't think that a new one would cost very much as it isn't much of a screen. ;)

The wire screen is up in the hole.
You have to stick your finger up inside and give it a slight bend to gain enough purchase to cause it to pull out.
Did you try doing this?

Great info! Thanks guys. I will stick my finger in there next oil change and see if I can find something up there.
Any chance if it`s loose in the case it can cause some damage floating around? It`s been 3 years and 3 oil changes and nothing.

There is no chance the oil pump inlet screen could be loose or floating around.
It is a round, cylindrical screen with reinforcing on both ends of it and it fits snugly in the hole.
If the screen has never been removed, there is a chance it could have some cloth fiber plastered to the outside of it though.
Back when my 2011 was made, this was a common problem and on the first oil change on my G5, I found cloth fragments plugging up maybe 30 % of the area on my motorcycles oil pump inlet screen.
It was almost a standing joke at the time that the workers were throwing pieces of shop towels into the crankcases.
I've been told, the cause of this material was that Royal Enfield workers wore cloth gloves and the fiber on the gloves would rub off and get on the internal engine parts where it remained until the engine was first run.
Supposedly, sometime before the CGT's were sold, RE replaced their workers gloves with something that doesn't leave stuff inside the engine so your bikes engine might not have had this problem.
One things for sure though. If your inlet screen has never been cleaned, expect to see a LOT of small fragments of steel imbedded on its outside.
These pieces came off of the transmission gears and shifting parts and any other place where some small burrs left by the machining processes might have left them.
The screen will stop maybe 95% of them and any burrs that get thru were trapped by the oil filter before they got downstream where they could cause problems.

First oil change for my 14GT there were several bits of plastic on the screen. Still finding "fur" on the magnets.

Just checked with a dealer in the US. He's saying the '14s never had a oil screen in them (at least that is what his parts catalogue said).
Any other 14 owners not have one?

I can't imagine why any of the CGT's or any of the other unit construction engines wouldn't have an oil filter inlet screen.
It is located under the little cover plate on the bottom of the engine. The cover plate uses two hex head bolts to hold it in place. It is not far from the rear oil drain plug.
My UCE parts manual says it is a "Suction Filter Assy" and it is installed on the oil pump pickup.
This screen does more than just filter the chunks of debris out of the oil. It serves to prevent the oil being sucked into the oil pump from swirling and creating a whirlpool which can allow air to be sucked into the pump inlet.
If your dealer has a copy of the older Parts Manual ask him to look on page 26. There he should see find number 23. That is it.
