Hey y'all, new to this forum after I picked up an SG650 a couple of weeks ago and looking forward to learning more about these motorcycles. So far it's been a blast, it's my first bike and it's scratching an itch I've had for 20 years now. The only issue I have with it is that the headlight throw seems very short, even after I adjusted the headlight up nearly as far as it would go I can only see what looks at road speeds to be about 30 feet ahead of me. The high beam isn't any better either just slightly brighter. Anyone else dealing with this issue and/or have an idea on how to mitigate it?

Try adjusting the headlight up as far as it will go !

Never thought of that  ::) ;) I adjusted it as far up as it would go until it felt like the screw head was stripping, then backed it off a turn or so. So it's "nearly" as far up as it will go.

Rode it to the gas station under the full moon tonight and managed to see almost everything in front of me, so I guess I'll just have to get used to it. As I said it's my first bike so my only road experience is from cars with much more/brighter lighting

Cars have two headlights ;)

My eyesight in the dark is below average, so I understand the problem all to well.
I installed a H4 led bulb in my Continental GT 650.
It is brighter than the original led headlight of my wife's Honda CBR.
(also much brighter than the Continental's original H4 halogen bulb).
So leds have the potential to put out much more light, but I guess a manufacturer has to comply with all sorts of international standards.
Making one headlight that meets all regulations is cheaper than making the best possible for each country.

On AliExpress they sell 7" headlights, mate to fit inside, as a replacement for a bulb and reflector.
Maybe this also works for the Shotgun.

Or some auxiliary lights.

Congratulations on the new bike! What an excellent choice for a first one too. Best color too, in my somewhat biased opinion lol.

As far as the headlight goes, I think TSTM hits it on the head. If this is your first motorcycle, it's probably a bit of an adjustment to see (or not see lol) how much less light one light provides as opposed to two. I know a lot of folks in India, and perhaps in other places as well, install additional lights on their machines. So there are definitely some options.

I would caution to be careful to not make it too insanely bright though. The last thing you want is to blind an oncoming driver, especially on a two lane road.

Welcome to the forum and to the world of Royal Enfield! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do 😊
Keepin' the shiny side up - ride safe everyone 😊👍

Swapping in an H4 LED bulb or adding some auxiliary lights could really help improve your headlight's throw without overdoing the brightness.

Swapping the bulb is not an option with the SG. I just mentioned it to illustrate theat LEDs have the potential te perform much better.
