Here's a thought:
On the Buddy/Ignore lists tab add a bar that lists the number of people that have added you to their Ignore list.
This quantifies how many folks are offended/repelled by your posts. If you are on maybe 100 people's Ignore list, maybe you'll move along as you've effectively ceased to exist.
Effectively you'd be allowing the membership access to a methodology to "vote off of the island" folks that weren't interested in useful dialog. At least you'd make it obvious that they weren't having an impact, maybe that'd be enough.
