Title: Bike update
Post by: kammersangerin on April 03, 2013, 02:27:52 pm
i know, I probably should start adding to "What did you do to your RE today...but this is so much more entertaining.

The sparkplug was changed, but it apparently had been done before because what I took out was an NGK with very little actual use, but lots of carbon buildup. However, that does seem to have fixed the problem. We will see if it stays that way once ridden hard. My biker neighbor took it out ona  pretty good ride and said it did fine, and also put on my shocks and adjusted my handlebars. While I am not entirely happy with my Hagons - I knew what size I really needed - I will ride it a bit to see if they settle, or if they go back for a different spring rate and size.  We are so close it makes me want to scream.

French water proof military packs on their way for saddle bags, and looking for a rack or will have a carpenter friend build one for me out of wood.

Now its choosing the windshield and the crash bar. I consider crash bars important safety features.

Please post pics when you get your bags mounted, ok?

I installed the Diamond style bar. It'll do the job and has a "minimalist" quality.  :)

The bags are on in another pictures I posted. They look defintely packish with lots of straps. But they stay dry. I'll find the post and refer it.

Hi Kamersangerin,  How do you like my rack? it came from "Enfield Gear" & I use it to good advantage with a pair of large rubberized Swiss Backpacks. Basically throw overs, but mostly on the rack with only one strap over the rear of seat.
Wood is an overly bulky material for its strength to size ratio (& usually butt ugly on a bike).   See my Rack below....

I see your method of removing the interference between the rack and the rear turn indicators was to move the indicators. :)

I found that rack does a good job holding a small sleeping bag and a backpack if I use enough bungee cords.
It (and 3 long bungee's) is also just the right size for carrying home a 12 pack of ale if that is your pleasure.  ;D

Arizoni,
The other day a young acquaintance said "You should totally strap my mom on your motorcycle and take her with you."  Not lying, she really said that "Strap my mom on....".  I don't think returning her was intended, although she didn't mention just what I was to do with her mom.  Are bungees good for this?  How many should I get?

I guess it depends on the size of the mom.

If it was my wife, you can't afford enough bungees and the rack couldn't take the load anyway.

Giving a nice mum a ride can turn out to be very interesting & lucky. I know from personal experience. So take her up on it, life is so short.

LOL  Yeah, I'm going to "totally" take her up on it.  The mom is less than 5 feet tall and can't weigh 90 lbs.  Smallest helmet I have is medium, which may be too big.
