Title: Best primary oil for selecting neutral gear
Post by: potboiler on October 19, 2013, 01:01:27 pm
I found neutral impossible to select if coming to a halt in second gear. Is this is due to 'stiction' or the clutch plates dragging? Now that I have the primary cover off is there anything I can do to adjust the clutch springs to help? The oil that I drained out was very thick and  reddish coloured. Is that ATF? Would a thinner engine oil help with neutral selection? ( Perhaps Enfield should have kept the neutral finder lever on these 5 speed boxes!).

ATF is good. It is not thick, but it often is red.
Shifting in/out of neutral can be from drag in the clutch. It can be from warped plates or mis-adjustment if the clutch release mechanism.
