I think I should introduce myself.
I have been riding, building, repairing motorcycles of many types for half a century, (I still feel 18yrs old in my head, my body says otherwise).
I currently own a few interesting bikes, one of which is a 1998 Enfield 500 Bullet Deluxe, I have had it since June and I have just about ironed out the many deep wrinkles it had.
I try to use it as often as I can, weather permitting, (my bad weather equipment is a CAR).
I have added a bit of extra chrome, I like chrome, even though it is unfashionable at the moment, (what is all this black over black, and camo, all about?).

It's metal, it doesn't understand!

That's a real nice looking machine. Love the silencer, where'd you get it?

It is indeed a Velocette venom silencer. It was in pretty rough condition when I got it, it really could do with re-chroming, but it'll do for now.
I only have this pretty rubbish 'before' pic.

Awesome! I'd been kicking around the idea of a Brooklands style silencer for awhile. Looks like it just bolts on no problem, too. Are you pleased with the sound?

I was lucky because it still has the baffle tube. I an really pleased with it, it has a much deeper note than the original, and it is not too loud.

I too like chrome. Perhaps it's an age thing. Love the exhaust, will have to keep an eye out at next auto jumble. Do you get any problems with Mr Plod as to the number plate.

No, so far they have left me alone, having said that, I'm now doomed !!!
As an improvement, I'm considering getting a 'cherished' no. plate circa 1965 ish, just to keep them thinking.
I do get a bit cheesed off with 'old blokes' telling me it's not a real one, it's a replica, etc. Does anyone else get this?
Yes, I really like chrome, a colleague at work told me that there is a limit as to how much chrome you can have on a vehicle, I've tried to find out if this is a myth or not, but have drawn a blank.
I'll carry on adding chrome until proved otherwise, I'll hasten to add, all the standard painted parts are safely stored away.

Well, I have a Northern Ireland plate.  3 letters, 4 numbers. Cost about £10 plus the transfer fees. As to old gezzers etc. I have not had that yet, but when it happens it is a 1958 middle with a disc brake front forks, from a 2007 machine, because the brakes are so much better, and my life is worth more than keeping it old school. The back end is is just a chrome mudguard to go with the front one. You can then throw in some gummph about the sprockets and gear ratios etc.
That should throw them for awhile. You have had it XXX amount of years and are trying to build the perfect Enfield possible. So what they see are refinements to the machine that you bought.

Yes their is a limit to how much chrome you can add. An Enfield is not finite. Also I do not believe you can chrome the tyres, but apart from that everything else is fair game. But I do like a standard black frame, just to set off the chrome.

Yes, I agree, the frame and the rear mudguard support are black, as is the headlight unit, (for now, watch this space), just about everything else is chrome or polished alloy.
SWMBO mentioned whitewall tyres, NOOOOOOO.
I try to use her as often as possible, commuting, weekends etc, but I avoid the wet and cold, I use the car instead.
She is definitely not a garage queen, I don't find cleaning a problem, just muc off followed by gt85, I polish her up now and again with belgom chromes.
I do think an old or dateless number plate will round her off nicely, and hopefully ward off plod and boring old geezers (says he, born in '57)

The headlamp casquette is an alloy casting, which does polish up quite nicely, if you're into that sort of thing. Of course as it's an INDIAN-built Bullet there's all sorts of polished brass bling available as well as chrome.

Well, you're only a year older than me but the same vintage as my old 500 bullet, which I should never have sold, see picture, it had a bit of chrome on it, my old Electra-X is in the background.

Sorry I paid £30 for the number plates, plus £80 transfer fees to the DVLA. Took about two minutes to do.
White wall tyres, Hmmm I will have to think about that. I've got some whitewash somewhere. Think it was also £30 for the black and silver number plate. They look so much nicer with that plate on them.

Well, I must confess, there happens to be a shiny chrome headlight casing at the post office in India at this minute, with my name on it !!
I agree, a black and silver number plate does look just right, I have hit the button for a 1965 reg. no. I'll just plead senility if plod gets too inquisitive.
