While changing the head gasket I took the time to "fix" a small porous spot in the head that was letting oil through from the rocker cavity.
Was able to get at both the inside and outside of the porous spot, so cleaned it up well, de-greased it and applied some liquid metal.
Finish was excellent so I was pretty pleased until I found out this stuff is porous as well, just soaked straight through it like a sponge.

So my question is - Short of welding, what recommendations for sealing this type of thing.  Just a good quality gasket silicone?

Cheers, Geoff.

J B weld will fix it.  ERC

I used both of these.  First, after thorough degreasing, I applied  JB Weld pressing it into the cavity with my finger and after it hardened I painted with Glyptal paint.  No problems since.

I used Glyptal. Great stuff but, even after washing the head with MEK, then naptha, then Denatured alcohol first it start peeling a short while later. Moral of the story, oil soaks deep into that porous material.Be sure you draw it all out before coating with anything!
The computer can't tell you the emotional story. It can give you the exact mathematical design, but what's missing is the eyebrows. FZ
