Title: A new LED question
Post by: b.sheets on November 15, 2012, 12:16:29 am
I bought the suggested LED bulbs for the pilot lights and speedometer. The replacement of the pilot lights went well...took 3 minutes total. Next I took the headlight out and pulled the neutral bulb out of the speedometer, pulled the bulb out and......damn, its a wedge base bulb.

Not the BA9s bulb http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/ba9s-ba7s/ba9s-led-bulb-4-led/6/

.... has anyone with a 2012 C5 replaced their speedometer bulbs with LEDs? What bulb did you use? I found this one http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/miniature-wedge-base/194-led-bulb-4-led-wedge-base/198/ any ideas?

again... I have a 2012 and after doing my research, watching the youtube video on how to do the swap and also attempting it myself it is safe to say that the 2012 speedometer uses the wedge based bulbs....

Sounds like another continuous improvement stealth upgrade.

well, I ordered  http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/miniature-wedge-base/194-led-bulb-4-led-wedge-base/198/

Let's see if they'll work. I guess I don't mind figuring this out for the 2012 owners.

For what it's worth to any 2012 Bullet owner the below link is the correct LED bulbs for your speedometer. There are a wedge base bulb not the BA9s bulb that previous years use.

trial and error, youre welcome.

the 2012s use wedge base bulbs in just the speedometer or the neutral and turn signal as well?

it uses wedge based bulbs in all three indicators that are housed in the speedo. your brights indicator, neutral indicator and turn signal indicator.

sethne,

Before you buy the LEDs, it is still better to make sure what type of bulbs you have, even if your C5 is a 2012. You never know yours might still be the older type bulbs (non wedge type/pins)

It doesn't take long to take out the bulbs from the housing in the nacelle. Just be careful. The speedo backlight comes out the housing easily, if pulled correctly  :D

2012 has the wedge version. found that out a few days ago.
for a quick trial i bough a couple from super-cheap and they work fine and pretty bright at that.
