got the new chain on the g5. 102 links doesn't leave much adjustment on the snails.

Yup, that's just the way it is. The original chain is 101 links, which means there's a half link in there somewhere, wide on one end narrow on the other. Some manufacturers still have these available.
If it's a good chain it shouldn't stretch too far and you should have plenty of time before you run out of adjustment, if you ever do. If you change the front sprocket from 17T to 18T that would also help take up some of the slack.

thanks, that is the long term strategy. it's an italian manufactured regina, seems to be better made than the original.

Everything is better than the original. But, I guess just about everyone know my feelings about the OEM Chains and Tires!

in most cases - any chain is better than the original bit of crap!
got me a new one - pretty happy with that. rear wheel even spins more freely so less work for the motor ;)

When I replaced the OEM chain with an American made Diamond chain after 3500 miles I went with a standard 102 link chain.
After adjusting the new chain my G5's snail ended up with about 3 notches before it would run out of adjustment.
I was a bit concerned at the time but that new chain has only needed one adjustment since it was installed and that was after 6000 miles of riding.
I'm no longer worried about the snails. :)
