Ideas of where to install an ammeter.

I'm thinking ditching the fuel/engine gauge in favor of an ammeter.

Thoughts?

Ideas?

meh.   How about an oil-pressure gauge, or, an EGT ?  CHT ?

or, maybe an itsy bity, teeny weenie, tachometer......

Why don't you leave the MIL light in there? It troubleshoots a whole lot more than an ammeter will!. Get out your book and learn how to use it.

For as much as the MIL tells me, I'd relocate it inside of the toolbox/electrics compartment.

I was thinking of putting one in the place of the ignition switch and replacing the ignition switch with a digital keyless remote ignition system. It is not hard to do, and it is convenient and cool, but doesn't really fit with the retro style of the bike.

actually, a wireless tether is an awesome idea.   but, the coin batteries can get expensive.

I put one on my Trumpy two years ago and have replaced the battery once, a couple of months ago. It was only a couple of dollars.

I used a remote switch (that is generally used to trigger fancy LED lights on Hardly Drivables) to trigger a relay which connects the ignition circuit. The digital remote and the relay came out to under $30, so it is cheap and easy - which I like.

A unit such as this one wouldn't even need a relay.

I see, that one is an ON/OFF manually activated remote.

I was thinking of a low power transponder that automatically detects when you are within 6 foot of your bike, and, turns on the ignition.

walk up, give it a kick, drive off ...   fall off & the ignition cuts out.

That can work as well. My only concern would be that if the signal were lost then the bike would cut off when you were riding it.

But, now would be a good time to return to the OP's question.  ;)

That is really cool and trick!  I might get one those for my Indian.  I don't have any kind of key or theft deterrent on the bike at all.  I like how it's very small and easy to hide.  The 100' range is pretty nice as well.

I think the hijacked thread was more fun then anything. Now I know who to touch base base with for anything remote start.

My motivation for a anmeter guage is less practical and more aesthetics. I like the look of anmeter. 

The last picture is awesome. Love it.
