Hi all
How do you turn the nut with the 5 position tension notches? I want to make it as firm as possible but no idea how to turn the nut at the bottom of the spring. The bike didn't come with a tool for it.
Cheers
Justin

You need a ‘C’ spanner. Measure the diameter of the ring then search online.

Just use an Allen wrench that fits in the hole.

Channellocks or "water pump pliers" and some cushioning cloth?
A trifecta of Pre-Unit Bullets: a Red Deluxe 500, a Green Standard 500, and a Black ES 350.

So I bought a C spanner but it didn't work. So I just gave it a good heave with a pipe-wrench. I did lift the back wheel off the floor a little but I think the nut would have moved with just the pipe-wrench.

     Me no unnerstand  :)

Mine turn very easily by sticking an Allen wrench (or anything) of the correct size into the hole (get a bright light & look for it) that's in the casting of the part with the stepped notches & turning it.

You can (probably should?) also use the tommy-bar (part 142632) that came with the bike toolkit.

Although I used water pump pliers last time I did it.

Tommy had gone AWOL from my tool kit, hence me using a ‘C’ spanner.

(For most owners I’d think that adjusting pre-load is a once only job  in any case).
