Aircraft Spruce has "phenolic sheet", aka commercially called Micarta or Tufnol in a generous selection of sizes.

Naw, just that the amateur knife folks have a penchant for using Micarta as handle scales, i.e. "they can handle it".

           It gives beautiful layering effects because of the laminations.
