Never had anything to do with KTM's but they look interesting. There is a KTM dealer only 12 miles from me, must have a look some time.

When I bought my 2020 KTM 390 Duke in San Francisco, I got hit up with a $750 shipping charge and a $600 setup fee on top of the MSRP.  >:(  Dealers used to call those fees "additional dealer profit" but apparently their customers didn't appreciate paying more than MSRP so that the dealer could make a larger profit. Now they dump on "fees" that are not so obvious and ones that can be logically supported when the buyer wants to bargain for a lower price.

I just bought a 390 Adventure yesterday! As you posted the base MSRP is almost $7500. Then add freight, setup, fees and hidden fees and you're pushing $9000. I got this 2021 with 1500 miles for $6000. There were a couple for sale for $5800 but this had the expensive Black Dog skid plate, a rear rack, new Motoz street knobbies and a few other farkles. It was pouring rain so I have only ridden it from one side of my house to another. ;D

44 horsepower!!!

Welcome to the world of "Point it & pull the trigger" riding!  ;D ;D ;D

Let us know how the routine maintenance goes, I think R230 has some experience here, as I recall he says it's a bit busy. But a 350 pound, 44 HP machine off road will be a hoot. Well done!

My 600-mile initial servicing included a valve check, new coolant, oil and filter change and updating the EFI programming, all of which set me back $650!  :o Of course, this was the shop in San Francisco and everything is more expensive there, especially if it includes labor.  >:(

And yet another generic "Adventure" bike. No design appropriation needed.

2025 KTM 390 Adventure: What to expect?

https://www.bikewale.com/news/2025-ktm-390-adventure-what-to-expect/?utm_source=BWSubscription&utm_medium=BrowserNotification&utm_campaign=BikewaleWebNotification&utm_term=170601

The 2025 KTM 390 Adventure has been undergoing tests in India and Europe. The motorcycle is set to receive a significant generational update later this year, which is likely to make it more off-road friendly. Although its official launch is still some time away, here’s everything we know so far about the next-gen 390 Adventure.

Design
Looking at the spy images, it is quite evident that the new-gen KTM 390 Adventure will receive an off-road-centric makeover, with a Dakar-inspired rally look. The ADV will sport a beak-style fender, large rally-tower-inspired fairing, lean tail section, and a single-piece seat. The bike will also feature a high-mounted colour TFT display, similar to the unit on the new 390 Duke.

Hopefully, by now, they’ve done something about the balance shaft gear key failure. It’s a weak design, doomed to hammer itself apart over time. With it sharing space and time with the crank cheek space, when it goes it can blow the bottom off the cases, which probably doesn’t happen in a corner.

The oft maligned J motor shaft has a noisy but unlikely to come adrift gear. The Himmy one seems to be quieter and robust. I don’t know whether the RE ones are interference style or not. ??

I have no qualms about the rocking couple taming ones on 180 and 270 twins. However, the temptation to save space and weight by having the largest rotating bits kept from plowing each other by a single tooth or key failure…. It isn’t just new stuff. The DR 350 Suzukis had the gear driven by a pin, which wandered out far too often.

Despite being a traditionalist, I’ve always admired the 390 Duke. The unapologetic early ones had a certain alien insect vibe that made me think of Starship Troopers. ORANGE! Yeah!!

I’d borrow one or rent one, but ownership better come cheap.
