I have a 2005 Bullet with the full 535cc Fireball engine modification (#49), now at 40HP.  I live in Thurmont,  MD and meet a group of motorcyclists in Annapolis occasionally.  This new engine is fantastic!  Before the modification,  I tried riding it to Annapolis,  68 miles one way, and the piston seized on the return trip.  After the mod, I tried the Annapolis trip again, confident that the new engine would make the trip uneventful.   I was 3 miles short of my destination and the bike quit running; turned out that the coil (Lucas, of course) had failed.  To make a long story short,  I made it home on a borrowed coil from an old VW Bug.  Replaced the coil with a non-Lucas one, wrapped in rubber from an old inner tube for vibration isolation.  The engine is great, but the rest of the bike is a work in progress.   Attempting another Annapolis trip in a couple of weeks.   My friends have been ridiculing my Enfield for years.  I have something to prove with this next trip.  Wish me luck!
Just joined the forum, hope to make many friends.

Sounds like you are having fun! Here are two epoxy coils that can be mounted close to the plug. About $30 for the Emgo, $70 for the Koso, both make plenty of spark. No more "Master of Darkness" Lucas stuff, OK?  ;D

My last reply wasn't posted.  Is it working now?

OK now.  Hi AzCal,
Thanks for your reply and your suggestions for replacement coils.  I bought an Emco last week and it's working fine.   This was not the first Lucas coil to leave me stranded; the other was in an MG car in the 1970s.  I'm replacing everything Lucas on this bike, along with every one of those nasty bullet connectors with crimped and soldered spade connectors.   I'll make this bike as close to reliable as possible.   I'm a retired NASA engineer,  so I've got this.  I rode a 1965 Triumph 650 Bonneville for 25 years and had very few problems with it.  My Enfield's crankcase breather value just failed and I was wondering if you could recommend a reliable replacement.  Thanks again for the coil tips.

Search "Amazon Check Valve" and you'll find quite the selection. Anything 1/2" or larger should provide low flow restriction. As long as you can easily "puff" it open with your breath/lung pressure it's all good.

I'm not a UCE owner, but I hear the primary chain tensioner can cause trouble by automatically overtightening. Also the OEM primary chain quality likely needs upgrading. BUT - others here with actual knowledge & experience have covered this topic in detail. Other than that it looks like a very nice hammer, especially with those Ace bits installed.

Funny: I’m on the Annapolis side of this equation (Baltimore) but have a ton of old family history around Thurmont. Been meaning to ride up there for a while. Great country roads, seemingly ideal for the “genteel” Enfield...

RTD, if you ever decide to come out to Thurmont,  email me.  You could stop by my place and we could go riding. I'm part of an informal motorcycle group, fantastic bunch of people, that meets at the Bean Rush Cafe every Sunday morning in Crownsville, not actually Annapolis. Come by some time and check out the gang, a very friendly and welcoming bunch.  Tell 'em I sent ya. -- Pete

Cheers Pete, will do. I def. owe it to the bloodline to do a ride out there, Thurmont/Damascus/Jefferson, that whole corner of the state. There’s that old church which is now a coffee shop in Brunswick MD (Beans in the Belfry). Tons of ideal destinations for a putter on the meteor.
