Title: Petrol cap
Post by: Rege on September 11, 2018, 07:12:40 am
Hello this is my first post, I have just taken delivery of my new GT 2018

When it arrived it came with a standard smooth petrol cap is this the case with all stock GTs?

Thanks Rege

I'd have thought it would come with a locking Monza style cap like earlier GT's but who knows? Maybe they ran out and couldn't be bothered to order new stock.

I think the smooth non-locking cap is the system used on California models that have a sealed tank that breathes through a carbon filter canister, which is required to meet emission regulations in the Great State of the People's Republic of Kalifornia.  Perhaps the 2018 bikes that are exported now need this same emission system to meet Euro 4 rules? Either that or as gizzo mentions, perhaps they are just using up whatever parts they have laying around at the factory now that the GT is a dead duck.  ???  Who here can explain what really happens at the Royal Enfield factory in India? Certainly not me.  ::)

Just had a look at Hitchcocks, they have this cap http://accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/accessory-shop/Petrol-Caps/38108 if you want the Monza style. The description mentions it's a replacement for 2017-  Euro 4 model CGT that come with the plain cap. So there you go. Who knew?

Hi gizzo,

Thanks for clearing that up! Oh well I did get ABS and at least my engine does not cut out when I put the stand down.

Just fitted some lovely bar end mirrors as I could not see out of the stock ones!!!!

Thanks Rege

Stock mirrors are pretty bad.  Anyway, you can always get that Monza cap if you want to pretty the bike up later. Too easy.
