I have recently bought a vintage bullet (my first bike), but can not figure out which mode it is. To me it looks like a redditch model, but I am not quite sure.

I would like to restore it a bit and learn how to repair and maintain a bike in the process, but I would like to make it as close to original as possible.

If you know which model it is, it would be a tremendous help.

Thanks.

Looks like a late 50s Bullet, with some strange parts on it. The paint seems original, but the tank badges, seat and front mudguard are wrong and the frontend is missing some black paint. All in all it seems not too much of a problem.

I'd say it was a Clipper, rather than a Bullet - but I'm no expert.

I'm leaning towards a 350 Clipper ,year of manufacture would help narrow it down a bit.
You could enquire with the Royal Enfield Owners Club quoting engine and frame numbers.
Colour picture is of a 250 Clipper.

That Lucas SR1 magneto - if original - says '59 Bullet rather than Clipper. Does the engine number (left hand crankcase) begin with the letter "C"? The Clipper shown in the old advert is a '58 model, still with 19" wheels, cast iron head as well as barrel and half-width hub. Once the 350s went to 17 inch wheels in 1959 it got a bit harder to tell them apart, especially once the Bullet as well as the Clipper went coil ignition.

There's a good blog on the restoration of a 1960 (Coil ignition, but otherwise very similar) 350 Bullet on the MBR forum here:

(You have to register)

While there are lots of similarities with the Indian-built iron barrel 350 Bullets, internal differences as well as the more obvious frame/tinware/wheel size/fork type on the English-built Bullets can catch the unwary out. A good set of Whitworth/BSF spanners will be needed.

Whereabouts are you, Madoho?
