Title: Mirrors Replacement
Post by: Ove on November 08, 2019, 05:15:45 pm
Hi, I can just about accept the left or right elbow tuck, in order to see anything past my arm in the mirrors. Today, I had my waterproof over-jacket on and the tuck is no longer enough, all I get is a mirror full of sleeve.

I have a 2019, Euro 4 Bullet Trials 500. Any best buy recommendations to replace the stock mirrors? I would be happy with direct replacement or bar end mirrors. I'm not keen on the bar end mirrors that have that extra right angle bit of metal (before the mirror stem) at the bar attachment point. They look just a bit too 'universal fit' / aftermarket to me.

I've done the Ebay trawl and big H's website and there seem to be options around, but the bar end types often appear to need some adaptations (do any slot straight in?) and I'm not sure which might be best at managing the vibrations.

Thanks.

O.k so not sure how helpful this is but YES there are some that slot straight in,  even using the same bolts. Mine came off eBay out of China for $20 delivered to Oz. Removed bar end weights and replace and 90% of vibration gone. Sorry can't give brand,  but look for ones that appear to have their own "bar weight "

These are my "go to" bar end mirrors.  They're very cheap but the quality is good.  Better than other chinesium parts I've tried.  I've used them on several bikes and haven't been disappointed yet. They're available all over eBay for around $20.
 A couple of things though:

The spigot on the bar end weight part is too big to fit inside an alloy handlebar. A steel one, might be fine.  My first set, I mounted the part in a drill chuck and filed the spigot while it spun in the chuck. Now have a little lathe so life is easy.

Don't bother using the expanding plug thing that comes with the mirrors. A piece of fuel hose with a nut behind, inside the handlebar, secure the mirror better.

Other than that, they're perfect. Good price, look good on the bike, very clear image even on RE vibes and stay clear up to 220kph (tested on Another Bike lol) . I use them in the vertical position. In that configuration they're barely wider than the handlebar, makes lane splitting easy.

10 out of 10 recommend.

Ove, I had the same issue and added some Hitchcocks mirror extenders and solved that problem. I posted a pic and thread back in Dec.

Hi, yes, I saw that and did consider it, I've decided I cant live with stock  so will delete them with blanking plugs and will try the bar end Ebay specials (well, Amazon equiv). I think they might match the trials theme of the bike. They're cheap, so I'm not holding my breath, but worth a try. Same as those linked above, but UK site / UK delivered. Will post feedback. If no good, I'll try 9 fingers approach.

Thanks for your replies.
