It has been a while since I last visited here. Lots of reasons, none important.
I finally got over the "Semi retired" and fully retired and I guess that made me lazy.
It is good to see so many familiar handles still around on the site. I've missed a lot here, but now I plan to stop in for a cup and conversation.
I don't have a bullet, but I did get a thumper from George a couple of years ago. It is a sweet Honda XL 350 that I use most often to run the mile into town and as a pit bike at the track.
Then there is the sport tour ride. a Honda ST1100. She now has 84K miles and required a new timing belt to start the season. That done I am planning a loop to Washington State and start Hwy 101 on the peninsula and ride it to San Fran, then back through Nevada on US 50 (the loneliest highway). I'll take this one kind of slowly, I plan to take two weeks. I think I'm done doing the 1k/day rides. I'm getting old.
It's good to be back.

Only 84k miles? ;)
Welcome back HRAB. Congratulations on going fully-retired.
-
Yeah, only 84K. I sold my 86 K100RT with 100K on it to get this bike. I shouldn't have. I sold it to a friend who is still riding it at 140K+. The Honda should go farther than that. It is still in prime condition. 8)
It took quite a bit of modification to get the Honda to handle like the Beemer.

Hi Jim - I just sold my '02 ST1100. It was also in Wineberry Red. I just got a '06 Yamaha FJR1300. It's a bit easier for me to handle than the ST. And it's fuel injected.
Cheers,
Bill

hi welcome back. i "ve wandered back myself. i"m wondering did you move from minn? your trip sounds like you are out west. i remember seeing that honda at georges. have fun. bob

Hi Bob and Bill.
I usually try to get a bike to 100K, but I might ride this ST longer. I've done some stuff to it to improve handling and ride. First the recommended tires had to go. I put on the size recommended for the 1300 and went with Michelin Pilot Road's. Had Traxxion Dynamic cartridges installed in the forks, and a Penske adjustable rear shock.
The springs rated for my weight and more aggressive riding. It rides as well as the Beemers I had in the past. And, I have too much cash into it now to trade.
My son is jonesing for a FJR. They look and sit like they could be pretty aggressive.
Still in MN. A little disappointed the REunion fizzled out. Perhaps we can meet up for coffee and doughnuts some where and time.

last year the steelville rally was canceled because slam sold his shop ,also the campground was sold . so a bunch of us held our own rally in the black hills . some of us are keeping in touch ,and are tossing around a few rally ideas like having the fall rally in co. near 4444"s place we hav"nt decided on a replacement for lanesborough yet. any ideas?

Good Idea. let me think on it. Eagle cliff is still there, but maybe somewhere else with different roads. SE WI perhaps?
I'll check around. Sounds like a good excuse for a ride or two.

You lost me at SE Wisconsin. :-\ Then again, I guess it would give me a good reason to visit family and show my bike to old friends. :)

I need to review the compass coordinates. I meant SW WI. I was thinking somewhere around Soldiers Grove. Another group has rallies at a camp and rooms are available in town.
Another possibility is across the river in NE IA. I've not spent as much time around there but it's worth a look.

i talked with some of the guys and we even mentioned having it at my place i"m about 11 miles from soldiers grove. and have been to the beemer rally there a few times. i have plenty of camping space,a shower and large tent etc.
-
I lived in the Janesville area for 31 years, I know southern WI quite well and all of my family still lives there. I may consider attending this get together if something does form.

OK. Busted. It is the Beemer group I was thinking had their rallies in Soldiers Grove. If we do this, I suggest we keep it simple and just get together for the company.
I would just need to make arrangements with the campground we choose with an estimated number of people and a date. Or if Bob is willing to share his land make arrangements for any logistical support he would need.
Scottie or Bob, you may know about these camps I found online, in the area.
Interestingly named: Kickapoo Stump Dodgers Camp in Gays Mills, WI
Mississippi Bed Camp and RV Park in Lynxville, WI
Any local knowledge? Any others I should put on a list to contact if we decide to go ahead?
The early REunions were small and simple and grew with the years. I will be surprised if we draw more than 6 - 12 people, and would call it a success.
Should I start a poll to get an estimate attendance number?

What weekend are we thinking here?
-
the lanesborough rally was on fathers day weekend . but we can do what we want.
-
Personally, I would prefer the 6-28/29 weekend. Other options could be toward fall in Sept. Fathers day weekend always conflicted with something else.

You can count me in, I've been known to ride a thousand miles for a hot dog and a cold beer.

That makes what, four of us so far?

I'd like to attend. I'll see if my friend Paul would want to ride out with me on his 2012 BMW GS1200R. That is if no one has a problem with a Beemer tagging along.

I'll be on a Honda. It is about people who like bikes and riding. Bring him along if he would like.

I might be making this my friend Paul and his brother. We're all Wisconsin boys originally and we have all been talking about making a trip back home. I will keep you guys posted. Perhaps we should start a new thread for this event.

A couple of family things took me away this past week, but i'm back in the game now.
Is there a better category to put this thread? I'm open to suggestions.

Either here in the Campfire section or in Trips/Ride Reports section.

Works for me. :)
-
I would be in.As long as old age does not interfere. And tolerable weather.
-
Jim - If your son buys an FJR, get a 2006 or later. Pre '06 they lacked good air flow control.
Now I'm thinking of driving to Wisconsin...
