Bullet Iron Barrel / Re: PowerBox (single phase), query?
« Last Post by French MK on Today at 03:50:47 pm »
I shall put a breather pipe back on, it always comes in handy on other bikes to indicate something is stuck...

Well took it up the road and the spluttering has gone woohoo!! so it seems the lack of the washer was the culprit. Powerbox is working and the battery charge is 14.9V max.
Float height was out also. Rectifier was knackered after all.

Clutch seems to slip a little, so will look into adjustment now.

with regards to carb jets/settings etc ..... should i run it for a bit to establish what or if changes need doing, or set up as per hitchcocks recommendations for high level exhaust and cone filter.

cheers

Bullet with the UCE engine / Re: brake pistons dechromed
« Last Post by sjbiat on Today at 03:41:19 pm »
Seems like there are no simple jobs on an older motorcycle.  I ordered a complete new caliper on eBay, thank you.  That takes a month and a half and meanwhile I'm missing Spring.  Called nearly local RE dealer who said RENA sells a piston replacement kit, but he didn't know how long it would take to get it.  Ordered that.  Meanwhile decided to clean and sand old pistons and reuse for now.  Only then I noticed one brake pad plate is warped: The tabs with holes are bent out of plane.  Is that unusual?  That was probably the actual cause of the brake drag.

This is for my scrambler build.  A lower peg would be a bonus.  Two candidates are the T120 pegs that are lower but not off roady and the Himalayan pegs that are only slightly aggressive.  What else is out there?

Hello!

After about 1000 km i removed the TEC cam and installed the KENT.

With the KENT cam the bike has better torque, accelerates better and the now can pass very easy the 5500 rpm even going uphill with high wind
keeping 110-120 km without any problem.

The TEC was too mild for my state of tune :)

See photos for comparison also see below 2 links for valvetrain noise after about 200 km having the exhaust valve set at 0.23mm which is now higher than previously installed TEC cam

As far as I know, he's been slowly expanding and building on his island ovr the years, even had to rebuild it after a hurricane trashed part of it at one point.

Sidecar Talk / Re: How to adappt the front forks.
« Last Post by zimmemr on Today at 01:41:33 pm »
I'd mount and ride the sidecar before worrying about modifying the front fork. Over the years I've owned several rigs and built a few for others. In my experience, a light bike, with a light sidecar normally works just fine with stock geometry. I would recommend installing stiffer fork springs, wider handlebars and a steering damper, and of course lowering the gearing. You may also want to invest in stiffer rear springs.

FWIW my T140 Triumph with it's Watsonian Palma chair would positively smoke my buddy's BMW R60/2 Steib combination. ;D But when another riding buddy bought a factory-built HD hack, he put us both on the trailer. :o

Usually there's better buy-in when there's something in it for everyone. IF "SWMBO" likes to ride with you, that gets easier.  Fly in to Las Vegas, spend the night, see a show, get your new ride & tootle down to south to Laughlin & stay at the Avi Indian Casino or if adventurous head east & cross over the Colorado at the "new" bridge, then south to Kingman, then east out Route 66 to the Hualapai Lodge in Peach Springs. Next day if in Laughlin head home thru Wickieup/Wickenburg. If you made it to Peach Springs, maybe wander farther east thru Seligman, Ash Fork, then down to Prescott where you could spend a night at the historic Hassayampa Inn. Next day back down thru Jerome and home. A mini-vacation & quality bonding time!

If SWMBO isn't interested in a long ride, there's always a flight back to Phoenix, right? You'll likely be home within a couple hours of her arrival back at the homestead if traveling solo. A night in Las Vegas can incentivise a girl.

411 & 450 Himalayan & Scram / Re: 2019 Himalayan known issues
« Last Post by GSS on Today at 10:36:20 am »
Mostly easily fixable minor issues over the years.

1. Keyed ignition switch caused 2-3 random shut downs. Cleaned carbonized stuff off the contacts and put dielectric grease and there has been no recurrence. A few folks replaced the ignition switch instead.

2. Battery drains out in 1-2 weeks if unused. Hitchcock’s sells a little adapter that fixed this issue.

3. If in the US, RE did recall and replace both brake calipers for corrosion issues.

4. Front brake lever can go flat after a few days and no amount of bleeding by any manual technique fixes it. Needs the RE electronic tool to cycle ABS to get hidden air bubbles out, but this would have been already done during the caliper recall.

Overall a very reliable bike. HCM cam, powertronic and Lexmark muffler totally woke up the engine. Hope this helps. Thanks.
