Title: Hansen Dam
Post by: barenekd on October 27, 2012, 09:12:26 pm
Next Sunday, Nov 4th will be the annual Norton Club Hansen Dam ride, "The best ride by a dam site".  The ride meets off the 210 and Osborne in Tujunga. Go north on Osborne, the West at the light. Turn left into the park parking area on Dronfield. The ride leaves at 10 AM and officially ends in the park about 2PM.
The ride is about 80 miles through the mountains  These rides are very unstructured. You are given a map to follow and then you're on your own to ride with whomever you please, at the speed at which you are comfortable. It makes for a lot of fun. Ride pins to English bike riders. REs count. Good food is served, and a "Concours" is held. Usually over 600 bikes show up and it is open to any kind of bike for the ride.
Let's get a bunch of Enfields up there!

Hansen Dam ride was yesterday. The weather was pretty good but getting a bit warm at the dam site. the ride was great once Jack and I got past the initial bunches and found some clear air. Pretty much the same roads as the last EPIC ride.
Unfortunately, we got split off from the Third Bulleteer, Steve. He got caught up in the traffic and we didn't see each other as we were in a gas station and missed him going by.
The number of bikes at the dam was incredible. There were so many bikes there that I didn't even get to see them all. There were a few other Enfields there, but I even missed some of those. Did manage to talk to some of the owners though.
I did get a picture of a nice looking Indian version that I did get a picture of. Boy, is That a lousy sentence! Oh, well, too late for grammar lessons! I like his little side panel description. It must be an Indian Indian Indian. OR is that an Indian3?
Just to clarify this bike, though. No Royal Enfield Indians were ever built in India. I don't want to get any misinformation going to the contrary.
I got nailed twice by bees, one in the neck under the jacket collar on the Crest and one on the 60 going home. The last one it me and the lower jaw and bounced off, but he must've backed into the collision, because he got me big time!
The club route was fairly short, about 80 miles, so Jack and I went back across the Crest to get about 100 more miles of twisties in before we went  home.
Total mileage 275 mi. Hot at the bottom, cold at 7-8000', great in between.

Very nice!  Wish I could have gone, if nothing else but to check out the bikes.

In your little movie clip there, what are your shooting? From the smoke, it  looks like a Colt Walker!

It's a flintlock .50 cal pistol I built from a kit (Traditions firearms).  Occasionally I aim quite good with it, though most of the time it's more like "now where did that bullet go?"

That particular occasion was serendipitous.  I aimed at an old CRT (barely visible in that tiny pic), took it out first shot, and someone happened to be snapping fast-shutter pics of it at the same time.  It was an old-tech-destroys-new moment that I quite enjoyed.

Here's a bigger slideshow animation if you want to see the TV imploding.

Flintlocks or CRT's?

If the latter, I can help you "dispose" of them...  ;)

That is a NICE looking "Indian Indian."  The more RE's I see sans-casquette, the more I want to remove mine.

Very nice!  Those are envy-worthy.  I've put mine through a lot of use and abuse, it doesn't look too great upon close inspection.  Still good fun though.

Looks nice. Is that a TCA lock and trigger?

Probably works the same. I'm not entirely sure though.  The rear trigger makes the regular trigger super sensitive.
