Title: 1st degree
Post by: dogbone on September 18, 2007, 07:45:25 pm
Does anyone manufacture a degree wheel that can go on the alternator bolt?I The hit n miss of the manual doesn't allow ignition or cam timing with any accuracy. It's easy to remove the primary case for as many times that timing needs to be checked.

degree wheels are pretty easy to find. Expect to pay $30 to $50 or so. The 0.8 mm before tdc is hardly hit & miss; it just requires some precision in measurement. That's been pretty much a standard way of setting static timing for as long as I can remember, and that's a long time.

Agreed, though, that a timing mark on the alternator would be better for checking timing at full advance where it really matters.

This came from our BulletManiac brothers across the pond at Bulletmania. I'm sure that they won't mind sharing...
