Title: Are pre-unit Bullets out of production?
Post by: cyrusb on May 16, 2018, 09:10:35 pm
I was asked that question the other day and had no answer. I know they are no longer exported to the U.S after 08, but I seem to remember that production went on in India, does it still?. By the way, my 05 kick only with 16k is still running fine on the original factory build. (I'll probably end up wearing that motor for saying that!) Thanks in advance, C

By 2011, the old cast-iron engine had been completely phased out, including in the Standard 350 model. Now all Royal Enfield bikes are only available with the all-aluminum UC engine.

Ah, it was bound to happen. Glad I still have my "Oil Lamp", it has survived a Ducati invasion, and has remained close to my heart for 13 years. I remember the old RE advertising line "The last bike you will ever own". I had no Idea how prophetic it was.

Cyrusb, my Bullet sixty-five keeps cranking out the
miles.   Occasionally I’ll be riding along and think of all the bad press these old bikes have received.
        “ beware of the experts”
I’ve got an old 3-1/2 horse Briggs push mower, mostly used for mowing around the out buildings now.  That old flathead is showing its age, over thirty years old now,  but continues to perform its summer duties....
..these old motors are an inspiration ...

We share the same experiences Merrill. I mow my lawn/plow snow with a 1972 Bolens. I'm 63 and that machine has worked every year since my junior year of high school. Yes, some machines can have manufacturing defects but generally its the owners "Mechanical Sympathy" is the determining factor of a machines lifespan. Living with my bullet has kept those skills alive. Back to the original question... Soooo, now I know when negotiating a price for some forlorn Bullet I must remember "They are not making any new ones".
