That is about as much a "Royal Enfield" as a NASCAR, Ford or Chevy, is a Ford or Chevy!!!!

But name recognition is what it is all about!

Shows they've confidence in the engine, been told dealer mechanic said it's very over engineered for 47bhp!

Well true, but you could say that about a G50 Matchless or Norton Manx as well.

Mitsubishi Pajero/Shogun used in the Paris Dakar, only the body shell shape was the same as the one the public could buy

Isn’t it just! I wouldn’t be surprised if they do really well. One of these motors done up in a purpose- built Harris frame? Yum❤️

Cheers mate, Steve

I'm very pleased that Royal Enfield is taking this route in product development. Flat Tracking is a excellent test bed not just for raw horsepower but more so for power delivery.

When you look at any brand's maturity history, I'm pretty sure we will be seeing a 750 in a couple of years and a 900(866) to follow that. Along with those new displacements will come the obligatory dual disc brakes and wider rims, etc.

So preserve your 650s, they will soon be the classics the collectors want.

Remember, the CEO announced that they would be releasing a new model every quarter. Not sure how Covid many effect that but if there are truly going to be 4 new models per 12 months we could be seeing some cool stuff soon! I know the 350 Meteor was the first, and I am not particularly excited for that one, but a 650 scrambler........which you just KNOW has to be in the works, and a Himalayan version must be coming in the next year. And maybe a 750 or two will show up as well! And didn't they have a new 500 single in a test mule, with a counterbalanced engine? I would hate to be without a big single.

They still mainly sell in the Indian market which does not have the same obsession with large capacity bikes as the west. Probably due to the fact that bikes in India are day to day transport and often the only vehicle a family owns as opposed to the west where they are basically toys.

Interestingly in the Indian domestic market Enfield are competing with Suzuki and Yamaha for 5th place with all three brands moving around 700,000 bikes each a year.  Still small fry though compared to Hero that sold close to 7 million bikes in India last year or Honda at 5 million units. This is worth a read https://www.motorcyclesdata.com/2020/07/05/indian-motorcycles-market/ .

EDIT: that said, the fact that current 650 engine is generally regarded as "over engineered" for the lowish power it produces does indicate possible intentions to either increase the capacity or release a higher tuned version at some later stage.
