Hello all!
If I mount the S&S silencers, is there a requirement to re-map the EFI and open up the intake?

I also did the S&S pipes and the DNA hi-flow air filter, did not remap anything and everything runs great.  I've watched a ton a videos about that and none have suggested remapping or Dyno.

S&S exhaust here too with no other changes and the 650 fuels perfect.

Stuart is basically saying let the bike idle for 10 or 12 minutes immediately after fitting the performance filter to let the bike recalculate the fuel/air mixture. I don't doubt his advice but for all the aftermarket pipes that have been installed on 650s, this is the first I've heard of the procedure.

The ECU will recalibrate probably quicker than 10-12 minutes, most likely within the first few minutes. Stuart's point is that you want to avoid taxing the ECU with wide range of throttle inputs, thus his recommendation to let it sit at idle. I haven't swapped out my exhaust yet, but when I do, I'll do that.

I put a set of AEW silencers on my Interceptor.  Looked at the S&S silencers and the price killed that idea as well as the fact that you cannot remove the ends of the S&S silencers and remove the packing.  In my opinion the AEW silencers are just as good as the S&S, same design, any difference is minimal other than the end caps.  I removed the baffles and all of the fiberglass packing from my AEW silencers and the sound is awesome.  Loud, but not too loud, deep and throaty, and with a bark that will get attention.

You are quite incorrect what you stated below. The reason the S&S exhaust is pricy is because there is no packing!  It is made of pure stainless steel baffles. Never wears out. Always sounds the same. The street version does have a very small cat in it.
Very high quality. That is why there is no end cap... but there is a baffle that is removable.

Well, sorry that I was not correct.  All I know is that I listened to sound clips of the S&S and AEW silencers and couldn't tell any difference.  When I removed the packing from my AEW silencers there is definitely a difference ... noticeably more roar and bark.  Can't do that with the S&S.  My AEW silencers can't wear out now either.  :)  I can still put the db killer baffles in to quiet them down.

Of course they don't "wear out" but the packing will. Maybe that is what you want.

Never heard of pulling out the packing on an exhaust, but it makes sense, I guess. I know it changes the sound, but does it change the airflow/back pressure at all?

The problem is the sound clips. They sound the same if it is an open pipe with no mufflers or completely stock. It's like trying to tell which cheese tastes best by watching a video.
