I've fitted an AVP recently not a Carberry but the dearer copy as sold by Hs, this plate unlike the Carberry plate has the dowel locating holes so I left the dowels in and fitted the plate and all seems well, but I wonder if I should have left the dowels out? your thoughts ideas! although I can see no reason to leave them out, unless there is a reason. There is definitely a difference from tick over to about 50/60 vibration is reduced and a lot smoother.

Canberry leave them out so that you can centralise the needle bearing on the crankshaft before tightening up the three bolts.
With the dowels fitted the needle bearing may not be correctly centralised.
Off route, recalculate?

What do the fitting instructions say?
I'm interested in one if these. I'd rather trust Hitchcocks than most others. There are valid reasons why leaving the dowels in might be correct.

There are also valid reasons for leaving them out.
The needle bearing that goes over the end of the crank has to be 100% central on the shaft.
Using the dowels MAY put the plate off centre .
Plus, I am not convinced that three 6mm screws are up to the task of controlling an out of balance crank.
Off route, recalculate?
