Title: Striped stud
Post by: Dhastings1954 on November 10, 2012, 02:02:51 pm
Hi
When I replaced my rocker assemblies, one of the studs that holds the rocker blocks is nearly striped. It is not very tight at all. Should I fix it? If so would you recommend tapping in an oversize stud or trying a helicoil?

One of the studs that holds the rocker covers on completely strip when I put it back on. Same question I guess
Thanks for your ideas
Duncan

Usually a helicoil or insert will work.

5 ft-lbs torque on all rocker stud nuts. NO more than that.
20 ft-lbs torque on head stud nuts.

For those curious about how much force 5 ft/lbs of torque on those little nuts will create, the answer is over 1250 pounds (567 kg) each.
That's over 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg) for the four fasteners.
