Now that I have a few km under my belt  and satisfied with the state of tune with the TM32 and my own version of the Ace canister, I'm interested in adjusting the inlet cam timing , who has done this with similar set up, what did you think?

I tried this on my 500 Pre-Unit with 6.5/1 piston. A bit more midrange & revs freer, but loses bottom end. I think you need to be running 8/1 or better to really see any benefit. I went back to stock as I don't charge around, but Ace & Bullet Whisperer use this trick on their built motors with great success.
A trifecta of Pre-Unit Bullets: a Red Deluxe 500, a Green Standard 500, and a Black ES 350.

Here are a couple of clips I made, discussing the subject. The machine I ride after the alteration was in a fairly low state of tune, apart from the carb and exhaust.

I think it works best with the high compression piston.

That is indeed true, although a 500 bullet in standard tune has the 'cubes' to benefit to a lesser degree. With the 350 cc machines, a high compression ratio is a must if this alteration is to be done, or the result is rather revvy and gutless.

Thanks lads and Bullet whisper for the vids, this is something I might look into on winters day and it's not far away here in NZ, my engine is stock and has only just got to 3500 km so I'm in no hurry to change the piston etc just yet , very interesting all the same. I think it goes fairly well as is but a bit more grunt from a complete engine package may be the answer

Thank you! The full length video, with every scrap of video footage I have on that machine from start to finish is now posted in the vintage RE section.
