Here is the video of today's excursion with a mate from the Himalayan group... well, part of it anyway.
The track was steeper, more corrugated, bumpy and loose than it looks in the video. Watching the play of the handlebars in places is instructive. So much so that Matt plans to inflict it on other poor innocent members of the Himalayan group. The ride was good though. Much fun had by both of us.
A tip for those playing at home - when you can see my handlebars, I'm sitting, when you can't I'm standing, when you can't see the screen, I'm standing and leaning right forward, if you're looking at the sky through a cloud of dust, I've fallen off.
At the end of the ride, I found a piece of gum leaf caught in my camera and you can see where I collected it in the video.

A trip up and around Middle Beach here in South Australia. Flat gravel roads, mangroves, tidal river. It's got it all... though the township is no more than a caravan park and a collection of holiday houses.

A short ride in the Hills near Kersbrook. This little road connects North East Rd to South Para Rd and neatly avoids those tight twisties (that used to be nice but there's too much traffic these days) and the road works on the corner of North East Rd and South Para Rd.
There are quite a few roads in there to explore, which I plan to do in the next week or two.

A few weeks ago, a group of Adelaide sidecar fanatics took me for a ride in the Hills. There were three Urals and a Royal Enfield Classic 500 with Inder sidecar... plus me on my Himalayan.

It's a nice road this one, interesting and gives an access into the gullies and roads in the Kenton Valley... which I hope to visit in the near future.

Here in South Oz, the gumbyment is building a North South corridor that basically takes you from one end of the city to the other. This is good. But it could be better... if they'd done it properly. This is only a shortish stretch of the corridor.

The video is only a minute and a half and speaks directly to the sort of things we motorcyclists still suffer today.

To be fair, it's lovely in a 4 wheeler and saves time getting out of town. If your bike behaves badly, you can take the now almost deserted port wakefield road instead.

My Ducati weaves terribly on that expressway.

As a road, it's a great concept, it's the execution that leaves something to be desired.

My XJ900 hated anything with a vague like that so I can only imagine it would have been a nightmare on this.

Fortunately, my Himalayan with the E07 tyres I've got, just gets and excited wiggle going, but one of the blokes with me, who has more aggressive dirt tyres was so concerned he rode on the verge and wouldn't come back that way.

California started rain-grooving concrete freeways around 1970. Riding my Triumph Bonneville on its Dunlop K70 tires would really convince you to head for the frontage roads. Fortunately, the groove designs have improved a bit and only cause the front wheel to feel a little unsteady instead of making you feel like you were about to go into a tank-slapper.    And the latest Dunlop K70 tires still don't like them all that much. About all you can do is to relax your grip on the bars, let things wiggle a bit and you will eventually get past the grooves and on to back roads, where the fun begins.

My Himalayan isn't so bad with the new E07 tyres, but I've been getting all sorts of feedback on that bit of road, most people having far more trouble than I am. I suspect that the muppets here haven't done their homework.

Another issue with this road is wet weather. Apparently the spray can be 3' high (especially off trucks) and the lane markings just disappear.

Fortunately for this stretch, the old road is still there and, despite having a lot of traffic lights, now features light traffic.

It did indeed. I didn't include it here because it wasn't a RE. However, I'm glad you noticed. The poor bloke isn't allowed to ride anymore (cancer) and has sold his bikes, so I thought he'd get a kick from that one... which he did.
