Title: Epic ride to Borrego Springs part Deux
Post by: Jack Leis on March 29, 2013, 12:22:12 am
Today I made another trip out to Borrego Springs, this time with a camera with fresh batteries. What a diverse change in scenery from Highway 79 in north eastern San Diego County to Anza Borrego State Park. I can only post 2 pictures at a time so bare with me. I took these with YOU in mind ICE !

Big Foot took my picture so I thought it only fair to take one of him.

Borrego Springs was about 90 degrees and dry as a popcorn fart.

Just 25 miles away on the ride back. What a change ! The pictures didn't really do the flowers justice, they were beautiful !

Gorgeous.  Is the Springs a wide open, explorable park?  Not sure what it gets from city light-pollution but I bet the sky is pretty spectacular at night.

Down in the desert doesn't have much light pollution in that particular spot. It's far enough south of Palm Springs not to be a problem. However, the mountains that you cross to get to the desert are even better. there are several amateur observatories up there, plus Palomar the Orange County Astronomer's Club has a site with a 22" scope up there, and pads to mount your own scope on.
Jack, get out the K70s. That dirt road running down the hill across the canyon looks like fun!
