Need help getting an ignition key.
When I bought my G5 the owner only had one key. Have been trying to get a duplicate for a couple of weeks. None of the big box stores have a blank to fit. Went to a locksmith and he did not want to deal with it. Went to biggest cycle dealer in the area and he offered to give me a blank I could take to a locksmith. Then I told him "Royal Enfield" and he said he could not help. Where do I find a key or a blank? Tried to contact NField Gear with no luck yet. Wainting for response. Any ideas? Getting old and absent minded. If I lose this one, I'm sunk. :(

Singhg5 mentions 'A small town locksmith used a Curtis B56 blank key, meant for GM cars, was used to make RE key. It works well for all locks.'

The nfield store has key blanks as well. With the blank anybody should be able to make it key for you.

Nfieldgear a.k.a. the store has genuine R.E. key blanks in stock, give them a call.

Got it second hand. Closest dealer is about 500 miles. Sent email to nfield store. Will call them today.
Thanks all for responding.

The 24R or 24S blank from Home Depot will work with a bit of work. It's a Ford key. It's thicker and longer than the stock one. The length isn't a problem, but they need to be thinned down a touch. I sanded mine on a belt sander and they worked perfectly. Jack said he got some Yamaha blanks that worked. I think he said he got them from Wally World, oops, WalMart, but you might also try a Yamaha shop and see what they have. The problem with the bike blanks at the shops is they usually want about $10.00 for a blank. That includes NFG. My dealer tried for months to get a blank from them and never did get one. Or he got some that didn't fit a G5. My Home Depot versions cost me about $2.50 cut!

if Nfield fails, I know they are listed on eBay.

Just to let folks know. NField gear has the blanks on back order. Should get it in three weeks, more or less, at a cost of $11.95 plus shipping. Rep at NField was very helpful. Said he can't swear to it but a blank for a pre 1979 Ford truck should work. I ordered the blank anyway..... :-\

The one I used is the same as my '96 Ford truck.
I ordered a key through my dealer a couple of years ago. I tried to go through NFG myself, too. My dealer finally got some in. They were for a C5. They won't fit a G5. AFAIK, he's never gotten a G5 one in.

I had a Yamaha blank cut to match my G5 key. No filing, just put the new key in and rode away.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going back the Yamaha dealer to see what we can do.

I took my keyblank (from NFG) and my one good existing key to Lowe's a week ago to get a copy made, but their key cutting machine wouldn't do it -- something about the length of the key or something similar. Any suggestions on where to get the key cut/copied?
Thanks!

I had a small moto shop make me one, but not from a RE blank. They just found one that fit and actually had to do a bit of filing to get one edge right but they did it. Try a small motorcycle shop if there is one around you.

Thanks, boggy. I'll try that.

I went to my local locksmith and had the Curtis B56 cut to my key. A little longer but it did also work for me. $4 out the door.

hitchcocks in the UK stock genuine blanks

I just went to a good local locksmith. He had the blank, said it's used for several different bikes. Big box will never have it. Seek out a local cycle shop or good independent locksmith.
