bit late getting away to do the bike deal so by the time I got home and unloaded - it was dark.
the bike itself looks a lot better than one would think of a shi//y brown colour and the saddle bags appear large in photos but are a lot smaller than you think

Cool! Good luck with it. When you trade it for the 650........I have noticed a pattern........I will buy the 650 from you when you trade it for something new. But we have to figure out how to get it to the states.............
Enjoy!

Congratulations Wildbill... :D wish you troublefree and pleasurable miles on your 12th RE (still cant believe it)...so you did get the saddle bags as standard afterall!
-
Congratulations on the new bike. I have a a brown 2018 C500 PEGASUS on order as well. But it’s only number four RE for me.
-
well I had a good look at this bike this morning- I actually like it and I think they have done a pretty good job on what they set out to do.
there is no risk about it- its looks a fu//en old motorbike and that's exactly what I wanted.
can't see any improvement from the gun metal I had earlier.
not sure how long the saddle bags would stay clean but I do like how they are mounted to the frame. pretty simple and effective plus they can be undone for removal too.
-
The perfect complement to your new acquisition is a Flyin' Miata V8 conversion (https://www.flyinmiata.com/V8/index.php) for your Silver Miata.
-
yeah I saw one of those. ive spent a few $$$ on mods on that miata and I would hate to think how much it would cost to put a v8 in one and then compliance it,
one think I noticed or two on the Pegasus bike
drilled front and rear discs and it a lot harder to get it on the stand with that rear pillion seat on. definitely affects the balance of the bike so it will be moved to the sideline
besides I never take any-one on the back anyway ;) the last time that happened was years ago.
the passenger fell asleep and his sleeping bag fell into the back wheel well and I had rear wheel lockup at 60 mph
new bike -new tyre gone and sleeping bag shredded too...LOL

Nice bike and video Look forward to the ride report after a few thousand K's.
cheers heaps

Wildbill;
I see the On/Park/Headlight switch is gone and there seems to be a button with something marked on it.
What is it? Is it still a headlight on/ headlight off switch or just something to plug up the hole where the old switch was?
-
if your talking about the left side - there is a high/low switch exactly the same as the kill switch to dip the lights.
well I decided to change the plug to a ngk…..no real reason apart from I think they are the better plug.
in the left ecu area where the tools are kept - after 9 years the tool roll has been replaced with a bit better item plus it appears a few extra tools too. overall a better presented tool rool compared to the original stuff.
when I bought the first euro4 5 or 6 months back I had to access this area for the single wire pigtail -to check for fault codes
well I don't think I or any future buyers will be doing that move any-more as its now been upgraded and to a 4 pin block affair
-
new pigtail block plug. note ! these new bikes are a lot tidier and appear better in this area.

Wildbill, I think Arizoni was asking about the switch on the right handlebar that, on my bike, operates the marker lights, the headlight and will shut off all of the front lights when pushed to the right. My guess is that it is long gone so that the headlight remains on for safety and can not be turned off. But he wants to know what the replacement button now does. A kill switch perhaps?
Or has RE installed the button that now comes as a factory option in new 2019 BMW motorcycle models, which when pushed will immediately call for ambulance and police assistance so that you and your bike can be checked over to make sure that you both comply with the most current laws in the country that you are riding through. Any ticket issued will be immediately subtracted from your BMW debit card. P.S. BMW actually charges extra for this new feature. ::)
-
Wild Bill, euro 3 has that block connector as well.
Its for the dol, dealer diagnostic connector.
Maybe done away with the mil code wire?
-
in that case its probably the red kill switch on the right side grip
-
Your Owners Manual that came with the bike should tell you if the winking CEL diagnosis method is still available without needing to go to a dealer if problems come up.
If the dealers are anything like they were when I got my RE, none of them could afford the expensive diagnostic tool thing so none of them had it.
As for my question about the switch, I was talking about the right hand switches.
As I'm sure you remember, on the older models there was a headlight/parking light/ off switch (that didn't work on stock USA models).
I know the "always on" rule applies to these new models but it looked like there was something like a switch (?) in the old spot and I was wondering what it was. :)

Same awesome tire irons, I see... ;D

how's this

-
Now you have a starter button, everyone's favorite kill switch button, and a nice piece of blank plastic where the useful sliding light switch used to be since the dawn of time.
-
Thanks Wildbill.
Seems like every time we take a step forward in design, we lose useful items like the ability to shut off the headlight when it's not needed. :(
-
Stupid Eurocrapic input into a so called safety feature. Modern motorcyclists think it is safer to ride with headlight on at all times, all it does in the right/wrong conditions is blind the on coming driver with the headlight, hiding the motorcycle, espeacially as modern Euro cars have the same stupid headlights on system so all you see is a plethora of headlights without understanding whats behind them.

Never mind the missing switch, is that a poodle-turd brown throttle grip I see? In the name of all that is holy, since when did Enfield fit poodle-turd brown handlebar grips?

Good point. I didn't see that. So is that color supposed to look like leather or just supposed to be something of a match to the bike's overall color (probably more likely)?
-
The Chrome C5's had tan seats and grips to simulate leather, but the grip in the picture does look a little darker...shall we say, maybe... "Tootsie Roll" brown? ::)
As for the headlight switch, it looks like you could buy a switch and drop it into the hole behind that block off plate, but would the new switch come with a "pigtail" harness and plug, and would it plug in? ???
-
could be wrong but I think all my previous bikes had the black grips - so this is the first from the browner side of the force ;D

I wonder if that yellow stripe is just for looks or does it really locate the center of gravity of the bike?
-
So on these specials then, what is the covering on the engine cases asks a curious mind?
Is it a plastic or paint? I forgot to look when I viewed a stealth at the bike show I saw it at.
It's a nice looker though wildbill.
-
Is it a plastic or paint?
Powder coating?
A.
-
the yellow stripe did indicate the centre of gravity on the flying flea but probably not this one. i'd say its some type of heat proof casing on the motor and exhaust.
either way I can smell it burning after a short break in run
-
Just looking at the yellow mark, it might be pretty close to the CG.
It looks like it is about 7-8" in front of the pivot for the center stand and that would make the front wheel rest on the ground and the rear wheel dangle in the air when the center stand was deployed.
-
Now you have a starter button, everyone's favorite kill switch button,
So it's not just me that hits the kill switch when I reach for the bar? ;D ;)
-
So it's not just me that hits the kill switch when I reach for the bar? ;D ;)
Now that you mentioned it, I never even noticed the kill switch on my 2011 B5 - which should tell you something about its impact on my RE experience. ;)
-
I got a email from my selling dealer it’ll be October before my Pegasus gets in here state side. :( I did order it in brown mainly because my friend ordered a green one. Easyer for us old guys to tell them apart. After seeing Wildbill photos of his bike I’m glad I chose the color I did.
-
Beautiful bike. I wish now I had bought a military C5 back in 2013 when I got my B5. But if I buy another RE it will be the Himalayan, which is still not available at my local dealer.
-
well the news to some may not be good!...LOL but I have decided not to go ahead and buy the INTERCEPTOR 650 :o
I've had enough with the latest vibration bit of crap and although I do waste the odd $.. ;) I decided I will not risk it!
following extensive youtube reviews I thought about the following three bikes.
a new moto guzzi v7 - a near new av augusta 675 - and a new honda cb500x
out of the 3 it appeared the honda would be the most reliable and the very least trouble in all areas so I am about to order one for delivery into the country on the 20/8
plus it has virtually no vibration at all and that's the PLUS due to my torn tendon in the shoulder
I thought about selling the Pegasus but disappointingly no bites even with a $2000 drop in purchase price on a 150 mile near new 3 week old bike.
so I decided I just have to wake up to myself a bit and stop throwing the big cash at the enfields...lol plus I want a friggin bike I can at least ride or try too.
there is a guy who has been waiting to go for a run with me since January and I've continuously knocked him back as I have been plagued by bike drama.
so I guess I have no choice but keep the Pegasus as a short run bike only and channel my riding towards the cb500x
at the moment the way I look at it-if I did go 650 i could have a lemon in both hands....LOL and I say stuff that!
photo of the possible coming ride. plus its $2000 cheaper than the pegasus ::) amd I probably won't have to touch it...LOL

Beautiful bike. I wish now I had bought a military C5 back in 2013 when I got my B5. But if I buy another RE it will be the Himalayan, which is still not available at my local dealer.
The Himalayan would be a great choice, It has become my favorite bike. Very little vibration for a single cylinder motor and the best all around bike I have ever owned and you don’t get a hernia just pushing out of the garage.
My dealer in the Portland, Oregon area still has three new ones in stock as of last weekend. You could fly into PDX then ride it home. Ask for Mike Durbin the owner, a great guy to deal with. PM me if I can help.
-
He may have a bit of difficulty navigating back to Oz. The ferries are a bit slow. ;)
-
For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure the RE 650 engine has a anti-vibration counter-balance shaft in it.
If it does, the old vibration worries aren't a good reason for not buying one. 8)
-
My thought exactly; it does have a balance shaft (as does the Himalayan. Both should be fine, though I’ll wait for others to jump in with the twin before I risk any more cash on an RE. My hope is that they re-engineer the C5 to keep the good bits (longish stroke, low revving) while getting rid of the poor design features. I’d like a 500cc that has the same bore and stroke as the current models, but bins the primary chain in favour of gears, is SOHC with screw and locknut adjusters, has a conventional spin-on full flow oil filter and a proper valve lifter for starting. In common with the 650 twins there would be a standard and a sports variant. In this case though there would be more differences than just cosmetic. I’d like the sports variant to have a four valve head and twin exhausts, maybe siamesed. It would also have a different frame like the CGT but would be appreciably faster than the standard bike and would have a close ratio gearbox, clip-ons and rearsets, maybe with an optional sports fairing ie something worthy of the CGT name. Dream on perhaps, but I don’t see why we couldn’t have a more conventionally designed 500cc engine with the long-stroke format that gives us the lovely feel of the thumping engine that we all love.

why did RE just drop several points in the stock value? coincidence? I think not! ;)
-
well some days you just have a bad day and it pisses you off...LOL anyway I put the sports exhaust on the bike and as always it sounded pretty good ;)
https://youtu.be/rgEHLZ38SuA
i'd say at this stage I will go ahead and get that cb500x but I will sit back and evaluate how things go and maybe not cancel the 650 interceptor … or not yet!
f/ck ...I could end up with three bikes...LOL
-
You might ride one of em too. I hope you get the interceptor as twins are always relatively smooth as compared to a single. The vibration of a single is half the reason to buy one (after having 12 I guess you know that :)). I was looking forward to your report on the interceptor. The Honda (a twin) is a nice bike though and one you can tour on. Whatever you go for just have fun!
I am of to the Great ocean road next week for a road trip and cant wait.
-
Hi Arizona people, just noticed that Go AZ in Peoria now carries Royal Enfield and it seems they have a Himalayan in stock.
-
time will tell but at this stage ive had a re-think and have not ruled out both the bikes ::)
-
Hi Bill - we NEED you to buy one, then we get a REAL evaluation ;D
I am down in Perth and waiting for them to arrive and would consider trading my 2014 C5 (Cream & Tan) which I have to say doesn't vibrate, only faults being the Crap Battery (replaced) broken battery Earth lead & Spark Plug Cap, and the dealer induced oil leak ! but the twin G.T appeals - as did orig G.t apart from starting issues moved me towards the C5.
-
what's the word out west on their arrival date - still October?
-
The Honda CB500X is a great bike if you like smooth and quiet. Too smooth and quiet for me. The seat is a bit high as well. I'd probably go with the CB500F, or maybe even the Rebel 500. They all have the dame engine. I have a ton of orthopedic issues, but vibration doesn't bother them. What does is stress points, like low bars or high rearset footpegs. I just can't ride in that position without serious pain. My B5 has a pretty neutral riding position that I have ridden 300 miles with in one day. One thing about Honda is it's extreme reliability. It should easily pass 100,000 miles without anything going wrong.
But I have ridden Japanese bikes all my life, and want something with character, which even Japanese v-twin cruisers don't have. That's why I bought a Royal Enfield Bullet and a Harley Davidson Sportster. I just love the sound and feel they have.
-
suitcasejefferson
good to see you back on the forum. yeah I think I need something like the cb500x if I want to go with the odd ride or two with a mate. I have not been riding with any-one for 6 years and that was when I bought the first C5
I actually found it a struggle keeping up with a big softail Harley -especially on the steep local hills.
i'd much rather ride by myself but if my mate insists and he has a Harley and triumph - this cb500x might do the job.
placed the deposit and the bike shop guaranteed - I wont have trouble cruising or pulling hills at 60 mph
well in 10 days....I will find out! LOL
-
Yes suggesting Oct / Nov here - and we now have 2 dealers :D
-
good! in that case I have plenty of time to re-coupe and cover the 650 purchase. that is after the cb500x
-
i'd much rather ride by myself but if my mate insists and he has a Harley and triumph - this cb500x might do the job.
If your mate insists, tell him to ride the Harley and hop on his Triumph... (https://advrider.com/styles/advrider_smilies/ricky.gif)
-
;D
-
well the triumph he has is the newchurch model I think and that $25,000 plus Harley - he won brand new in a bike raffle....only took one $50 ticket too ::) ;D how's that for luck.
but if I really wanted to ride a triumph -I think I'd just buy one. apart from that I wouldn't get on another guys bike....I think it spells trouble.
-
my cb500x is only days away now from the scheduled delivery date. it will be good to put both the c5 and the cb500x together as a comparison re-view
why? you may ask. well the very minor complaint which come against the cb500x on a regular basis is the fact that it hasn't got a gear change indicator...LOL
those testers would have a lot more to worry about than that if testing out an enfield ;)
my comparison testing out the new 018 bikes ...LOL will be something like - 500's FOR TWO....WHAT GEAR OH DEAR! ;)
-
Hi Bill - re gear change indicator - my Versys didn't have one so fitted a neat little $15 unit (Bangood) that worked well :)
-
thanks for the info. ive never had a bike with a gear indictor so something to think about. I guess the 650 interceptor wouldn't have one either...could be a 3 way shootout...lol
-
I'm a new Pegasus owner in the UK. Just curious why you wanted to sell it after such a short time?
I have the Honda NC which is similar to the CB500x. I find it a pretty good bike and it's quite satisfying going down the motorway at 80mph and seeing 80mpg (imperial) on the display. It's certainly a different ride to the RE.
-
The end of your silencer looks silver in the second photo, is it? My serial No is only 42 away from yours, be good to get some order in the serial Nos, I'm in the UK.
-
Good God Almighty, Wild Bill! Are you seriously already trying to shed that "Pigasus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pigasus_(politics))"?!? Has she even had her first oil change? Please, I beg of you--before we all stage some sort of "intercontinental intervention"--Get yourself a tip-top old "iron belly." Instead of flushing a couple-few grand down the khazi every couple of moons, divert a couple large to really tarting that old bitch up Hitchcock-style, and then turn her out on the streets. Embrace the good vibrations. All of them, for their/there are many and they are all good. Seriously dude, I too have had many rides, but by FAR my favorite so far has been this old 2005 iron belly. Sure, it sports a left-hard shift, but it's a 5-speed, so worth the ascent up the learning curve for me, used as I am to mere 4-speeds yonder to starboard. Still, the only bike I might ever cash her in for might be a Vincent Comet (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSjMdtueDLs) thoroughly gone over by my main Vincent man My-Ty (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSjMdtueDLs). Otherwise, no deal. So there. Get one. Get some, and belay that whinging!
-
the end tip of the silencer is black just like your so just an illusion. plus its no longer on the bike and replaced by a 19" shorty
yeah I thought about selling it but it was just one of those days ;D I have other plans now so its good.
bilgemaster
I wouldn't rule out the idea that maybe one day i'd try an iron barrel again in right change
the iron has a great note compared to the UCE. I actually had a right gear change iron roughly 7 years back and almost crashed it twice. got confused on the gearchange...lol
meanwhile ive been adding mention to my youtube videos to see if we can round up more new members. after-all we know more about the bikes...LOL
-
Bilgemaster - it's a little late in the game for your advice... but you're "new" here so we'll cut you some slack! ;D
-
got a call late today near 4pm from the honda dealer. the cb500x has arrived in the shop and has been registered and ready to roll
id say a 10 or 11am pickup for me and then a good test ride.
no real run in period either and just stay under 5000 revs till first service.
will be interesting riding 47 hp instead of 27 ;)
-
big day today -bike arrive and a video. later I plan to put this bike against the enfield in a shoot out ...could be a bit of a laugh. for the occasion here's a video with re-worked enfield song

Your new bike seems nicely finished and looks functional, Wildbill. But the looks of the bike's engine and its muffler doesn't do much for me. I think Honda should have blacked it out to disguise its looks and make the muffler look more traditional. I am sure that it will serve your motorcycle transportation needs. Congratulations on your new ride.
-
Looks good. :)
It should be utterly reliable with no niggles at all.
It will have the heart and soul of a wet mop and become a very nice, trustworthy, boring machine. ;D 8)
-
It's a UJB (universal japanese bike). Not sure why it is worth column inches on an Enfield forum. I sense mission creep....
-
don't be disappointed...I will make up for it and buy the 650 interceptor too!...LOL
-
blairio
is this better...LOL

Language barrier problem + a bit of jealousy on the part of the Honda. ;D ;D 8)

I can't see Wild William ever going back to an iron barrel, but be that as it may, I enjoyed riding with those guys. The guy on the orange one rides like I prefer to; right off the centerline. The other guy not so much. It gives people too much of a chance to try to pass you in your own lane. And many don't just try; they do it.
-
Both nice bikes! The honda looks like a mini version of the VFR1200x cross tourer.
-
I was out on both bikes yesterday. that honda is a very fined bike compared to the enfield. hard to belie I see now why people come over to take a look at such a raw looking bike....LOLve they are both 2018 models......and after riding both
-
one should never have to put up with a vibrating bike especially with a shoulder injury. so I went on a hunt and the bike bolted on me so I sold it today...LOL meanwhile I didn't like the handlebar position of the cb500x either...its gone too....LOL I am ready for another enfield

Bill, do any of your motorcycles ever make it to their break-in service? ::) I bet the local motorcycle dealers just love to see you walk into their showroom. ;D
-
I'm beginning to wonder whether he's on a search for the Holy Grail of REs. ;)
-
Well I just talked to my selling dealer. My Pegasus delivery date is set back again to med November ???? now. My friend ordered one in green from our local dealer. I had to get mine from a dealer some 450 miles east of my home. It can be a nasty time of year to travel just to fetch a bike here in the NW.
-
well thankfully I am in a position where if i'm not satisfied with what I buy I can abort...lol. to date I have aborted quite a few...LOL
-
Well I have had my Pegasus (green) for about one month now, done just on 1500k, and love it. What a great relaxed ride, and getting better as she runs in. :D
