Title: Asbo Bullets at Pendine Landspeed Racing
Post by: Bullet Whisperer on June 23, 2013, 08:15:16 pm
For anyone interested, the two 'Asbo' Bullet racers attended this event and the best results were as follows for the kilometer:
 350 [number 32] - 95.76 mph
 500 [number 31] - 110.51 mph
We are all very happy with this and here is a link to the event:

Thanks, everybody!
It was nice to see the bikes doing the sort of stuff they were built for, instead of quietly gathering dust at the back of the shed, which they have done for a while, up till now.

Just found this picture, taken during the first day, it was on Facebook. There is a famous Royal Enfield racing rider in the picture, talking to us [far right]. My Father, Dave is far left, my mate and part time helper, Dave 'Trident' is next to him. I am eclipsed by my Brother, Ian [Henchy], who has his back to the camera, but, just for fun, who is that on the far right, talking to us?

I'm going to guess that it's Steve Linsdell.

#31 has an interesting chain guard.  Which exhausts are those?

Do you mean No. 32 [the 350], Boggy?
Therein lies a story, the bikes were prepped as they would be for racing, but scrutineering failed both machines for the L.S.R. runs for not having chainguards - maybe a throwback to Parry Thomas' misfortune with 'BABS' see -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._G._Parry-Thomas

Anyway, we cannibalised some plastic slot together roadworks barrier that was lying around in the carpark and soon had a 'one chainguard fits all' answer to our problem and were allowed onto the beach with the 350, kitted out as in the above pic. We went home on Saturday evening and I made an old Triumph chainguard fit the 500, so each machine had their own and on Sunday, both machines could be in the same queue for a run, saving us time and maximising the runs we got up the beach.
The exhausts are our own, with moto x cans stuck on the ends to quieten them down to permissible levels - the 500 right on the limit at 103 db, the 350 very quiet at 93 db, when last checked a few years back at Cadwell Park.
The 350 made a big impression at Aberdare Park in South Wales last weekend, it fought the last two races with no top gear [5 speed] and came in very respectable, beating some 500 cc machines nevertheless - here is a result from the end of the day, when 5th gear had 'gone west'. When the 500 was tested during practice on Saturday morning, it was found to be 1 sec per lap SLOWER than the 350, as the smaller machine is lighter and more flickable on twisty, steep, short circuits. the 500 needs a bit more room to stretch its' legs and get going, hence it became the 'reserve' machine at this meeting.

Yeah, but what's she say?
Sorry the devil just overcame me there! Just couldn't help it! ;D
Hey, size doesn't bother me, either. I can always satisfy #1! ;)

Great results! I see that your bikes were much faster than many 600s and 700s?

Thanks, that's true, Sanket, but the 350 should have made it into three figures as well - I only discovered after the event that we had an ignition problem on this machine, which caused random pre-ignition. We finally, after a year or so, got it fixed before Aberdare Races.
If there is a 'next time' for Pendine, we hope to be there !

Pretty sure that you'll make it BW! I did read the pre-ignition stuff in your blog. These machines have typical mood swing at times I guess :P
