Title: Saddlebags
Post by: Pickasaurus on March 17, 2014, 01:50:38 am
Has anyone got the Nfield gear express saddlebags?  If so what are the dimensions and can you post photos with them on your ride?

Just put a pair on last week! You can see them on page 271 of the of the "What did you do to your Royal Enfield today?" thread.

They measure 12.5" x 10.5" x 4" and attach to the C5 with no modification. The fit is a little loose, but they don't look out of place at all.

Royal, Thanks that was perfect.  I take it you are happy with them.

Can you link to the actual post?  Page numbers are arbitrary, since you can change the number of posts per page...

I thought they'd be larger honestly, but if I had to buy them again, I would.

Thanks for throwing that picture up there, too. I didn't think you could link an individual post, and I didn't even consider just attaching the pic...  :-[

These saddle bags look great.  Are they waterproof? If not, could they be made waterproof?  I am not just thinking about keeping the contents dry, but also protecting the leather from the worst that the elements can dish out.

On my pedal cycle I have panniers made by a British company called Carradice. They make a range of saddle and pannier bags using traditional methods and heavy duty waterproofed cotton, which they call 'Cotton Duck'. This stuff is great - it can be re-proofed and looks better with age.

Does anyone know if there is a company out there which makes something similar specifically for motorbikes?

Cheers,

Blair

I don't know if they are waterproof, but they're extremely rugged. If they're not, I'm sure they could be made waterproof with ease.

They're very high quality at any rate. These saddlebags are not screwing around.

Update:

The bags secure to the bike via two buckled straps at the top, and a snap strap in the middle. The middle snap came undone on me while I was riding on the highway. The top straps were solid, but they hung a little loose on the bike.

I bought a set very much like these on the Indian website for $72.00. They were shipped two days ago. I hope and pray they are even close to this nice.

A bit of research on ebay indicates this is a rather common item. Quality???? will see.

Appears to me that you only get one bag.

The Indian bags are a bit rough. Come as singles, though the email when I enquired was a bit unclear when I asked specifically about a pair and the price. Stitching is OK but with some gaps. Not waterproof.

Price is ridiculous for a single bag of that quality.
