Title: saddlebags

Almost 300 miles now on the new C5.  (Its hard to put miles on fast, as there are no exit roads from Austin that are safe for a 40 mph bike.)  I am amazed at how much more confidently the bake handles curves and uneven pavement than the bigger bikes I have always ridden.

Now I'm thinking about accessories.  I wondered if anyone has experience with the nfeld saddlebags.  They sell a generic saddlebag, but it is not explianed how they attach and what keeps them in place.

Don't know specifics, but most bags go over the fender or seat and have loops to tie them to the frame at the bottom edge.  On the C5 this may mean resting on the fender ans struts.  Over time this may wear the paint so if you plan to leave them on look into something like 3M film to protect the paint.

If and when I get saddlebags, they will sling over the rear pillion of the C5 and will likely have clips to hold them in place.

I use throwover leather saddlebags I bought on ebay. They go over the rear of the dual seat of my G5, and I have the NField Gear chrome rack with side frames to keep them secure. I made a couple of holes in the back of the bags so I can tie them to the frames with cable ties, or you could use straps. They're a good size, cost around fifty quid, and hold enough for a weekend away (assuming you're male..... ;) ::))  Tools etc in a leather tool roll strapped to the grab bar and cable-tied at the bottom to the rack.

WillW Hi, is there much involved in fitting the rack? I've been told by the distributor here that it is a hit and miss affair.

Thanks for the comments.  I am concerned that the straps-over-the-rear-seat kind of bag is not gong to be very secure with a solo seat and bare rear fender.  nField sells a more expensive smaller bag that looks like it attaches to the bars that run around the fender. True?
