Title: 08 Royal Enfield 500
Post by: bitphire on April 22, 2013, 11:33:31 pm
Trying to replace the starter gear on the bike. Took the case cover off (forgive me if I use the wrong terms). I believe it's the primary chain (that wraps around the alternator? and clutch). We need to get the sprockets that are apart of the alternator off but it has a large nut holding it on and we can't figure out a way to keep the stuff from spinning on us. Any idea's on how to hold it so we can break that nut free? I can get some pics if need be.

Edit: can I assume this is a lefty loosy situation or is it reversed?

Edit2 Images:
We pulled that cover off and behind it is where the nut we need to figure out how to get off is sitting.

Update:
We managed to get it using a shirt and some wood shims to jam up the clutch sprocket enough for it to break free.

Just a quick question, what oil do I put back in on this bike? The manual didn't come with and google is not treating me nice atm.

Thanks.

Most people use regular motor oil, but Automatic Transmission Fluid also works very well.

Any specific weight? I read 20w-50 but they didn't mention for what year and it looked older than our 2008. Just curious what the manual suggests or if there is a more common option. I'm down in Central Texas so it gets pretty warm. Synthetic or non-synthetic?

I run 20w50 in my 2007 AVL, but I may switch up to ATF Type F next time I change it.
