Title: Generator to ulternator
Post by: WVRIDER on October 03, 2010, 04:38:39 am
Hello, could someone please tell me if there is a kit that I can use to convert my 57 Enfield Indian from the current generator set up to using a ulternator?  Thanks in advance, Nick

If it's a Bullet I believe they already have an alternator with a Lucas magneto for ignition. Is this an Indian they sent to the U.S>  ERC

oh, ok I am just starting to wrench on this thing and I am sure I will have lots of questions.  I was also curious what motor and tranny will mount up in rhis 57 frame? I was curious because I am looking for both to go in this project and was curious what my options were? bullet, meteor. etc....  Thanks for the help in advance...

I'm more familiar with the twins such as the Tomahawk 500 and Trailblazer 700. If you have a Woodsman or Westerner 500 single cylinder model I'm not so sure. I'm figuring a 500 single with a Lucas Magdyno set up since the twins went alternator in 1956. There is a Magdyno replacement unit that used to be advertized on the Brit Bike board but I'm unsure if they are still available.

A picture would be good.

Try SRM in the UK.  I know they supply electronic replacements for the magneto.  Just had my magdyno rebuilt by them and, at least for the first 1000 miles, I am very happy with it.
