The pad on the chromebook works.

The pad is not USB and has its own drivers.

First Question:  Does the USB port work fine for other things like USB Thumb Drives
Second Question: Does the mouse work fine on other computers

I have an older Chromebook and I've always used a wireless mouse. Plug in the sender to the USB, add batteries to the mouse & turn it on. Voila! About $20. Never fight the cable - handy as hell!  ;D

Thanks for the replies. Mine is a wireless mouse with a rechargeable battery and has started working again. Maybe the battery just needed a bit more charging .
